I know rules have changed numerous times in upgrading from a hopper to AP, so before calling Guest Relations.... thought I'd see if someone here has done this in the last few months.
looking for the most recent pricing info to do this... from someone that has actually done it... :)

We have MYW hoppers that have NO expiration date. Bought over 2 years ago through Undercover Tourist. We plan to upgrade to AP.
How do they calculate the cost difference?
Does it matter at all if you call now to upgrade or wait till after the first use?
Will the discount we received purchasing at UT stay intact? (I think we saved like $65 a ticket at the time we purchased). How will they know what we actually paid? Or will they pull up what the actual gate price was at that time? Or the gate price now?

Wondering if we should save these to use in a year we know we won't be upgrading to AP.

I have upgraded many undercover tourist ticket to annual passes - with varying degrees of success. The last time I upgraded, we were given credit for less than what we paid for the ticket. I was just too exhausted to argue with the cast member and just paid it. If you get an uniformed cast member, try a different guest service location. I have found the guest services outside of Epcot at the international gateway to be the most knowledgeable.

Your upgrade must be done in person since you purchased the tickets from a third party reseller.

I had 5 day MYW tickets not hoppers bought more than 2 years ago from UT also. I upgraded to an AP when we were at Disney in March. There is a whole ticket thread under theme parks that explains a lot about upgrading, but here is a link where I found the price that I expect my tickets to be worth during the upgrade and it was exactly what I was given $362.10. Hope this helps you. I am also copying the link to the ticket thread too.

We upgraded my daughter’s hopper when we were there the 2nd week of April. The ticket had been purchased from UT right after Disney raised prices last October and went to surge pricing for all tickets. The ticket she bought was minted prior to the change.

The upgrade cost her the difference between the gate price of that ticket on the day before the price increase and the current price of an AP. IOW, the gate price of a 7-day hopper in Sept. 2018 was $522 with tax. The cost of an AP in April 2019 was $952. She paid $430 to do the upgrade.

There’s a ticket upgrade sticky on the TPAS forum and it includes info about the gate price of tickets for recent years. You may want to read it. Then calculate what the upgrade should cost you. If you get a CM who wants to charge you more, thank them and decline the upgrade. Try again at another guest services location. Both MK and Epcot have been good experiences for me.
