Whatever the case, I hope she recovers and gets the help that she needs.. Suicide attempts (as well as successful suicides) always rise quite a bit around the holidays..

The New York Post is reporting that Billy Joel's daughter with Christie Brinkley, 23-year-old musician Alexa Ray Joel, was taken to the emergency room in NYC on Saturday after a failed suicide attempt.

The paper says Alexa Ray ingested a large number of sleeping pills and was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan.

A female caller told a 911 operator that Joel had taken several pills and wanted to die, sources said.

"Alexa is stable. Her doctors are assessing her needs and that's all we can say at this moment," said Claire Mercuri, Alexa's and Billy's personal publicist.

Joel was conscious at St. Vincent’s Hospital, and is expected to survive, said other sources.

I thought she was doing pretty well in her career? Writes all of her own music..sings..plays the piano beautifully? I am more inclined to think it's her personal life that is saddening her...

I just saw her on The View not that long ago and she sounded like she was doing so well. She looked very happy. I can't remember but I want to say that she had just got engaged...maybe Im thinking of someone else, but I thought the girls were making a big deal of her ring.

I read an interview with Christie Brinkley not too long ago and she was all about her kids. I imagine that she is beside herself right now.
