Hop or don't hop?

The only time I would really need to, is when we go to AK, since we only spend a few hours there. Since it costs so much to hop, I'm wondering if we're better off staying at AK all day, hopping one day, or hopping all week. I haven't actually sat down and done all the math. I guess that's my next step.

Any comments or suggestions?

It just occured to me that I heard about a website (free) where you can put ticket combos together and compare. Does anyone know what it is? Thanks

I can't imagine not having the option to hop! There are maybe two or three days out of my trip that I do spend the whole day at the same park, but on the majority of them, I'd much rather mix it up! After being at MK all morning, sometimes you're just in the mood for some Epcot at night!

We (family of four) do not hop. It saves us $160+. For us that's just a ton of money to sepnd on something we might or might not use. I rather like going to one park and sticking with it. I make smart choices about what park to visit on what day and usually don't get caught up in the cycle of hitting one park for EMH and then running over somewhere else. "The simpler the better" works for me.

I think that hopping is definitely worth it! My family and I always park hop each day. You never know when there are special events happening (like EMH), so it makes things easier for us and allows us to enjoy as much of each park as we want. Also, it gives us the option to eat at a restaurant at say Epcot for lunch and then going to maybe MGM for dinner and fantasmic. It just gives you so many more options! I couldn't imagine not park hopping, but my family is more go with the flow and we don't luck being confined to one place all day. So it depends really on what kind of family you have.

We hop everyday, I can not think of a time when we stayed in one park for the entire day and evening too.

We didn't hop last year because my son was 3 and I knew we wouldn't be going to the parks at night and knew we'd only stay until the afternoon then head back to the hotel for swimming. Next trip, he'll be 4.5 and will be able to keep going longer so we're going to hop this time.

There's enough to do/see/eat at each park to keep you busy all day. We have always gotten the hoppers, and didn't this time and really didn't miss it. But then, I can never understand people who can only find 3 hours of stuff to do at AK. We spent the whole day, and didn't see everything.

I could'nt imagine not hopping. I love having the freedom to go where ever i want on my vacation. Add the option you will not regret it.

Another option would be to do something besides a park if you do leave AK after a few hours. Make that afternoon your Downtown Disney shopping time, do some mini-golf, go to a water park, etc. If you won't hop on the other days, it probably isn't worth spending the money for just one day's hopping......

I think it depends on the length of your trip and how you tour. We had hoppers the last time but it was adults-only and we only had 4 park days and needed the flexibility. I'm planning a trip now for 7 park days that includes 2 small children and we're not planning to hop. Are you taking an afternoon break? If you tour in the morning and then take a break, there are plenty of things to do at night without hopping: going back to the same park you were in during the a.m., DTD, mini golf, swimming at the resort, eating a nice meal at a different resort. OTOH, if you are interested in the rides and shows and not planning to stop and take in the whole magical experience, then maybe park hoppers are for you. And, if money is enough of an issue, I don't think there's even a question of whether or not to do it. With planning it can easily be avoided, if that's what you choose or need to do. Good luck deciding!

We do not hop ever, but we are going to hop one day this coming trip because we want to save an extra day on our passes for a next trip. AK is our least favorite park so we'll be doing EE and KS and then hopping to another park.

We're staying 7 nights but only doing 4 days in the major parks.

We always hop - but I think it depends on when you go. I see you are trying to go in Decembe. When the parks close early, its nice to go to a park during the day and then end your day at Epcot which is what we do all the time.

We don't buy hoppers.

For us, the sole advantage of hopping is if you didn't quite finish a park and need to go back to it for an hour or two, or half a day. But we don't need buy hoppers to do that. We have the fun n more waterpark option. So on our water park days, we'll simply finish up those few stray attractions we missed (if any) after dinner. It's about $2 per ticket to add the next day on to the tickets at that point so for 2 bux, it's worth it. That way, we don't pay the extra 40 bux for the hoppers. We pay the $50 for the plus pack (which we'd be getting anyway) and pay $2 for an extra day on the tickets and go to a main park after we're done at the water park or DQ. Works out fine. If you otherwise hop because you like hopping, then the hoppers are worth it imo. Also if you tend to take naps mid day, then hopping is great. We don't take naps and hopping for us is merely a method, not an end in itself, and we don't need to pay the extra money for hopper tickets to achieve that end.

What we are going to do:

we are thinking that we will hop, but with me with two little ones, we aren't 100% sure.

so since its the same price (approx $40) to add on the hopper, whether it be for 1 day or all days of the passes (in our case 8 day passes) we will add it on while there if we feel the need.

this way if we didn't use it we aren't out the $40 per person, and if we do go to use it then we will add it on at that time and not waste any money.

hope that makes sense!

Go to the Disneyworld site and get to the tickets only area. It spells out all the options. BTW we never hop and don't see any need to.

We buy AP's, but we don't hop. In fact we were just at WDW for two weeks and we spent
5 days at MK
3 days at EPCOT
3 days at MGM (but left one day to go to DTD)
2 days at AK
2 days at Beach

We did not hop at all. If we leave, we go shopping or back to the room. One day we did leave MGM to go shopping. We went to AK Lodge to pick up art work we liked. We were going to go to DTD and grab something to eat there. We decided since we had ADR's at MGM to go back to MGM. We ate dinner and then left again to go to DTD to shop.

For us we wouldn't pay for Park Hopping. For those that go back to the room and then switch parks it would be worth it.

we always hop. we sometimes go back to the hotel to swim, or somewhere to eat. thengo back later in the day. we try to go to epcot to see the fireworks usually. we have fun hopping. but to each their own.....
