I've read mixed reviews about this dining experience and wondered what anybody's thoughts were about its suitability for a two year old and two big children (mum and dad) in tow!

It is a very active show and the food is brought to you and served family style.
I think it would be fine and you would have fun.

Other options...
If you want to experience the food, the Trail's end buffet next door to the hoop-dee-do has the same food (with a few more options as well) for about $23 for adults and it's a fun themed place. No show, but the same good food and atmosphere and you can spend time looking around at Ft. Wilderness as well..there is a horsebarn with the disney working horses (that's free) and worth a look!

Another option if you want the activity and show is the Mickey backyard bar-b-q. It is also at Ft. Wilderness. Also has the same food basically. It is a buffet and in a pavillion outside (seasonal). It is known for being a great place for little ones to run around and be active and there is music and a show with cowboys and rope twirling, etc. and some character appearances. It is 2 dining credits if you are on the dining plan and is similar in cash price to Hoo Dee Do.

I think you would be fine with anything that you choose. With the exception of some of the more quiet signature dining restaurants, young children are everywhere at Disney and fit right in....it is a family vacation spot.

We went last April with our just turned 3 yr old and she loved it. We also had my parents and DD- 10, DS - 12 with us. It was a hit with everyone. Food was good, entertainment was fun, 3 yr old clapped, sang, laughed, and enjoyed the fried chicken and corn bread.

Mum and dad will like it alot. The 2 year old will be okay if lots of crowd and noise don't bother him/her.

we have taken ds (now almost 3yo) three times... once at 6mos, he slept through it... next at 18 mos, he liked the music and was very entertained... most recently at 2.5yo and he LOVED IT!! banging on the table, eating up a storm, just enjoying it all around... i would go for it (and i did! LOL!)!! :)

I too say 'go for it'! Last time we went my sons were 2 1/2 and 6. The six year laughed so much it was almost like a side show at our table. The 2 1/2 year old was very entertained (and he wasn't too pleased with the disney characters at the character breakfast or in the parks). It truly is fun for the whole family.

We're going again in 22 days and my now 10 year old and my husband can't wait. My six year old (the then 2 y.o.) doesn't remember it.

We had an 11 mo old, one that turned 3 on our trip, and one that just turned 6 before we left home. They all loved it! The 11 mo old moved to the music, tapped the table, and made hysterical, happy noises. We all got a kick out of watching him! It was a great experience.

Thanks for the lovely messages. We'll give it a go and report back in October on our return.

My DD loved it at age 2...until they got to the part where you run a spoon up and down a washboard. LOL. My mom took her outside for a while.

We went again when she was 3. Again, she loved it up until the washboards came out. That time we didn't take her outside. We talked her into giving it a try herself. You wouldn't know it from this picture, but a few minutes later she was happily making plenty of noise herself, along with all the other kids.

We've been back several times since then and she's been fine.

ETA: She didn't complain about any other noises -- loud attractions, fireworks, etc. So, it wasn't just that it was loud. She's never really been sensitive to noise. It was just something about that particular sound that she didn't like, LOL.
