Hoop Dee Doo =X

Funny, it is still a pain to get reservations to the Hoop Dee Doo :/ I actually wish people would lose interest, more seats available!

Folks, the Hoop Dee Doo is great, it's fun, and yes, it costs money. Just like everything else in Disney. If you can afford it, go and have a great time. If you can't, than there are plenty of other entertainment venues you can choose from. It's really that simple :)

You can wish...

I wish more families could afford this great show ........

It takes our family a long time to make the $ to make the trailer payment, truck payment, house payment, taxes etc...........

Not to mention the $200 for the 4 of us.....

I like to look at things at wdw through a working familys' eyes.....

Unfortunately, such is life :( Thankfully my old and new family have been blessed enough to enjoy Disney for many years. We are definitely thankful!

I thought I'd just jump into this thread as I'd like some information on the HDDR, and you guys seem so much more positive about it. My question is, how is the vegetarian selection? Yup, I'm one of those weird veggie types! I'm not fussy about food, so long as it didn't have to be killed for me to eat it (no meat or fish, but do eat eggs, cheese, etc). What I really want to know is, can I get enough food to warrant the cost? By the sounds of it, my mother and I would love the show, but I'm going to have to pay for the top price seating as that's the only bit that's wheelchair accessible (I don't get it, I have to pay more to bring my own seat :confused3), and I don't want to come out of it hungry.

Thanks guys and keep on singing :thumbsup2 !

We just got back Sunday night. During Lent I don't eat meat but I do eat fish. You will need to tell them 48 hours in advance that you will need a vegetarian meal. With all that is served, I would have been fine without the salmon. They bring out a huge salad and cornbread before the main meal. My entree consisted of salmon (which you may get something different for vegetarian), char-grilled mixed veggies, corn on the cob and a large baked potato. I couldn't finish it. Stay away from the beans, they are seasoned with pork. I was overstuffed but it could have been that pitcher of beer :drinking1

Some folks over on the DDP dining forum are seriously slamming the Hoop-Dee-Doo. Cheesy show, old costumes, so so food. Is it that bad ?? I've heard such great things about it on this board so I am confused.

- Is it that the other people are just used to more high end places and resorts and maybe not into camping ??

Yes,Yes,yes:sad2:

- Do the Fort Wilderness regulars just love it because of the experience and maybe because of the nostalgia ??

I love the show..... but do to its cost it is difficult for my family to fit in the vacation budjet

If this show wasn't at The Fort, would you still go to it ??:sad2: NO

Sounds good to me. We don't need fancy food...just lots of it for hubby and kids, lol !! :lmao:

Thanks for all of the responses. I was surprised at the descriptions I was reading on the dining board and was hoping to get some other opinions here. We are looking forward to going, I know my kids will enjoy it. We aren't expecting "Broadway"..it's a campfire show !! We are going to be spending 4 of our six days just hanging out at the fort and figured the Hoop-Dee-Doo and Mickey's BBQ would be good highlights for a couple of those days.

As for price...I KNOW going into this vacation that it is a Disney property and things are going to be overpriced and I plan accordingly. I am not going to count my pennies and worry about what everything costs. We have been waiting 3 years for this trip and I plan on enjoying every minute of it.....overpriced meals, tacky souveniers, corny shows and all, lol !! :)

Exactly! You're on vacation, stop worrying about money, life, your troubles back home. Enjoy yourself, let other people worry!!

Your kids are going to LOVE this show, the only bad thing is, you're going to be hearing this for the next few days.....

HOOP DEE DOOOOO HOOP DEE DOOOOOOO

Trust me, you'll know what we're talking about after you've seen the show.

Be sure to tell us all about how much fun it was when you get back!

I have been about 5 times!! That says yes I did enjoy the food the show and the beverage!! I enjoy laughing and having a good time so I think the Hoop Dee Doo is well worth it.Everyone I have went with ( which includes different age groups from 11 to 70)has enjoyed the show. I would recommend going to the earlier show.

Wonderful! Thank you so much! I figured if I gave them enough notice, Disney could work their magic for me, but obviously I wanted to be sure before I booked. I know about baked beans, my aunt and uncle live near Boston and have to ship in Heinz just to get them meat free, but thanks for the warning! This really sounds like something my mother and I would love. We're both Guide (Girl Scout) leaders and love singing at campfires (and walking around the streets, to the great embarrassment of my sister). Sure it'll cost a bit, but I've been saving up for this holiday (and am going to be working my backside off this summer) and dash it all, we're going to have a good time!

Thank you so much everyone :thumbsup2 , I think you may just have convinced me to go for it (provided the holiday goes ahead, that is, it's still touch and go at the moment *crosses fingers*)! I'm hoping to be there for my birthday, so I may just have found our evening's entertainment :goodvibes:!

Very well put! At my house(and in the TT too) we usualy enjoy several days of "bear" jokes after we go to the HDDR.

Enjoy your trip!

We've been to HDDR before and will be there next tuesday night 7ish show. I can't wait and as my DH says It is Disney and the ONLY all you can drink beer:drinking1 . The food is good homestyle food and you will end up singing hoop dee doo the rest of your trip. If you can afford it , it is worth it to us.

Have a great time.

HDDR isn't F-I-N-E dining, it's F-U-N dining.:cheer2:

Seriously, if you want GREAT FOOD or a classy meal, go to the V&A at GF.

If you want to have family fun at a dinner and be entertained, do HDDR.

It's cheesy and it is nostalgic but THAT's WHY I like it. Where else can my young kids see that kind of fun? Golden Horshoe Review in MK/Frontierland used to offer something close (no meal) but now it is a shell of its former self. BTW, Disney effectively raised prices by going to the tiered structure BECAUSE THEY CAN GET IT. You or I would do the same thing.

And from a cost effectiveness standpoint, if you consider that tax and tip are included along with all the food you can eat, dessert, and all the beer/wine you can drink (!), and throw in the fact you get a show, I think it is a fair deal. I also think it is worth 2 TS on the DDP (even though I don't do DDP). Plus I'm on the property and don't have to go off to dinner theater shows on 192 or someplace else. We FW folks get to stay "home". :thumbsup2

I'd pay for HDDR any day over a character meal or dinner in the castle (whatever the name of that restaurant is these days). I don't do this kind of dinner every night - in Disney terms most suppers (in my popup) are CS, I do maybe one TS and splurge on a HDDR. I don't know stats but the dinner/show at the Contemporary has changed/folded many times, the Luao (sp?) at the Poly is not what it was, but HDDR is still going strong.

Bring on the strawberry shortcake!:cutie:

PS-only 156 days left till college football kicks off....

Can you all stand another opinion? 1993 was our family's first trip to Florida and we definitely splurged on HDDR. Rob was our waiter (Bor) and although one of my sons was not feeling well at the beginning, he definitely perked up during the meal and performance. And we ALL came out singing, all the way to the camper. DH was certain that he had NEVER had such a meal before!
We have since been 3 more times, the last time in May 2006 with DBIL and DSIL...this time the performance landed in his lap and it was priceless!!
Yes, it has increased in price but the food is still great and the entertainment is the best! Oh...and Rob is STILL serving!

DD23 absolutely picked HDD as one of her dinner choices for her college graduation trip. We've been a few times.

When did WDW go to the teired cost for seating? I thought late last year if was 1st reserved-1st served. What are the costs now and where does that $ put you? On the floor, front or back, or on the "shelf"?

we always go to HDD-its our favorite and we have great memories from the show over the years
it is cheesy-and we love cheese !!

This is a definite must do at some point in your disney "career". We have been 3 times over the past 17 years but not for a long time. Now you all have gotten me nostalgic for it. Maybe this trip........

They went to teired seating as of January 1st.

From another site on the prices:

2007 Pricing:

Category 1 will allow you and your party to be seated on the first floor level with your table nearest the stage and in the middle of all the action and excitement.
$58.99 - Adults, $29.99 - Children (3-9)

Category 2 offers either a great table on the first floor behind the Category 1 seating below the balcony or in the center of the balcony on the 2nd floor. Either way, you're still facing the stage so you can get a wonderful view of the entire performance.
$54.99 - Adults, $26.99 - Children (3-9)

Category 3 offers tables that are located on the right hand side or left hand side of the balcony on the 2nd floor. You won't miss a moment of the fun and excitement as you enjoy the panoramic view of the entire stage production.
$50.99 - Adults, $25.99 - Children (3-9)

So as you can see, there are 3 tiers. To be honest, Tier 1 is only 8 bucks more than Tier 3, so it's not like there is a HUGE difference in price. It's still based on availability, so if all of Tier 1 is gone, you'll have to go for Tier 2 or Tier 3.

Also, BIG NOTE for those of you wanting to use the Dining Plan with this. You can only get Tier 2 or Tier 3 seating when you use the Dining Plan. You CANNOT get Tier 1 seating, unless you pay for the tickets yourself.

Also, in regards to the Hoop Dee Doo being trimmed back a bit during slow months:

The Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue is planning to scale back its schedule during the “Low Fall” season of 2007. From August 30 - October 29, 2007, the dinner show is scheduled to perform Thursday through Monday only.

This totally makes sense, since lots of shows can't fill to capacity at this time because of the lower attendance rates at Disney. So basically you couldn't see a show on Tuesday or Wednesday during those months, but those are some of the most dead times at Disney, so it's understandable.

Also, some people don't like to sit close to the stage, so actually being able to choose an area farther from the stage with the tiered seating is an added benefit.

I personally love the change, if you're willing to pay more money, you're willing to have a better seat (or vice versa). And since it's only an 8 buck difference from top to lower tier, it's not like anyone is getting screwed over. Plus, almost all seats in my opinion are great at the Hoop Dee Doo, you'll have fun at any table!

I saw the HDDR years ago on a trip with a friend. We'd been traveling from Ohio all day with her parents and 2 little brothers. It was a very long day and the HDDR was exactly what we needed. Lively, fun and all you can eat and drink. :cool1:

In fact, when we go next year, we're making our ADR for Saturday night. A perfect kickoff to a great vacation! :D

I love the Hoop Dee Doo! I introduced my DGF, her mom and little sis to it and they loved it! My family always camped at FW because there is 7 of us and each time we did the HDDR and loved it! My brother was called up on the stage once. HDDR is a must on every trip as far as I'm concerned!
