I made reservations at Hoop-Dee-Doo recently and now I wonder if this will be a good venue for my 5 and 3 year old children. I initially thought it was more of a cowboy/cowgirl themed event vs what looks to be more frontier can-can dancing. Maybe I am wrong. OK Hoop-Dee-Doo veterans, make me feel comfortable or direct me to changing my reservations - - thanks in advance for your comments.

I'm sure this will be moved as this forum is for dining reports, but, I think you should do the HDDR. I started taking my twins at 11 months old- and even though they didn't get the jokes,, they loved it. Now the twins are 6 and my "baby" is 5 and they have all gone every year- and have a blast. The jokes are so corny that a 5-6 year old really appreciate them. At least my boys do. Also, noisy, singing, clapping, audience participation and playing the washboards are all hits in my family.

My girls loved it when we went this past May. They are 4 & 5. For about a month after we came home they talked about it EVERYDAY. Cant wait to go back next year!

My son was 5 the first time we went and he loved it! Like the above poster said it was all he talked about when we got home! We do it every trip now!:goodvibes

In my experience, little kids usually enjoy HDDR. There are lots of silly, lame jokes that kids seem to like.

A lot of the jokes are so lame it's almost un-'bear'-able.. :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl:

The Mrs. and myself REALLY enjoyed it.

It's not a cowboy / cowgirl show, but I really wouldnt consider it can can either. IMO can-can would be much more 'grown up' focused, and this is about as far from that as you can get :)

We were going to do the hoop de do this trip (friends who we are traveling with are) but my son will only be 22 months and he is not that good at sitting for a meal, when he's done he's DONE! For us a 2 hour dinner show was really pushing it. I think my older ones would enjoy it (9 and 6), but if my son throws a fit or is having a "bad day" our dinner will be ruined and lots of money wasted. We will pass this year.
Sound like your kids are old enough to enjoy it though.

We took my almost three year old in May. He LOVED it! He's not a great "dinner" kid, once he's done eating, he wants to get out. But there was so much going on, it wasn't until the VERY end that he was getting a little restless.
We BEGGED to go again in September, but there were too many of us going, and we were outvoted. They don't know what they're missing! It was awesome. We want to go again when/if we do another trip in the spring.

We have gone twice now with ages ranging from 5 to 80 and we all loved it. I say go for it.:thumbsup2

We went there for my sons 6th birthday and had cat 1 seats. He was wearing his happy birthday button and the actors came to our table and asked where he was from and old he was and even got pick to participate in the show as the Texas Ranger. He absolutly loved it. My younger son was 3 at the time and he probably didn't most of the jokes but he sure had fun laughing everytime we laughed.

Kids loved it! Went in 2006 with a 9 and 5 year old. One thing I would like to point out is that when you play the washboards it can get really loud. Everyone is using a spoon to bang up and down the washboard. My DS5 (at the time) had (still does have) a hearing issue and I didn't even think about how that may have effected his ears decibel wise until after the fact. BAD MOM! (He's fine by the way.)

We went back for the (I'm too embarrassed to tell you) time last month and a little 3 year old sitting behind us made our evening! He loved every minute of the show and his multiple belly laughs proved it. We loved him! Go - enjoy.

Don't change it!! My kids are 5 and 2 and absolutely love it. My oldest requests it everytime we go. The last time we were there we were lucky enough to get a table right against the stage. Oh yeah and us parents love it too. :rotfl:

It's a must see :thumbsup2 . We took our then 5 and 3 yr old and they LOVED it. Not to mention we laughed our @&$# off too. My 5 yr old was laughing so hard it made us laugh even worse.

I would love to do this one again. I think it will be even better if we wait a little bit so our memories fade.

This trip will be our third Hoop Dee Doo. We love it. My kids are now 6 and 10. Our first Hoop Dee Doo was three years ago. The kids loved it. They still talk about it.
