Ok. I just got a lot of feedback about the luau show being not as cool as people expected and I was thinking maybe of going to the hoop dee doo instead. I know it is very popular because i remember seeing the masses outside of the restaurant when we were camping but have never actually talked to anyone who has seen it. Anyone willing to share their experience? Preferably those who have seen both? I liked the old diamond horseshoe in MK so maybe I should just book in FW?

thanks!

We have done both the HDDR and the luau and we prefer the HDDR. The HDDR is corny but very engaging and entertaining. If you liked the Diamond Horseshoe I would say that you won't be disappointed. We liked the food better (perhaps it is just our taste) and the characters/performers move among the audience during certain parts of the show. They tell corny jokes but they are simple and the kids get them. We always start our vacation with the first night at HDDR.

We, too, have seen both (HDDR several times), and prefer the HDDR. I did not enjoy the luau - the show was just OK, but I was really disappointed in the food. I think I could see the HDDR repeatedly and never tire of it.

Thanks guys. I have always wanted to see HDDR since I was a kid and I think it may be time. How old were your kids? I am thinking mine may be too young since they will only be 4 and 6.

Actually I think your kiddos are at a perfect age to attend. They involve younger children in the performance (if the children agree to participate). Our youngest daughter was about the age of yours one time we went, and although she didn't want to dance with the performers, she did enjoy herself. In fact, I believe even younger children who enjoy music would enjoy the performance. It's very lively, and I like the food. Here's a link to a video that Jack Spence of Allears.net produced: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jm2rL2reH8

We have done both, prefer Hoop over the luau, better food, better entertainment in our opinion. Our kids were 3 and 5 when they first went and both of them had a great time and ate A LOT!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the great reviews everyone. I had the same question since we will be returning to WDW during Spring Break.

Thanks for the video. I showed it to my daughter and she is ready to go so i guess i will be reserving HDDR. I am glad to hear that there have been others with kids with the same ages who liked it. I have a feeling that dh is not going to like it but he would feel that way about either of them.

We've done both and HDDR is much better. The show is really good and the food is better.

We used to do both on our WDW vacations. All things being equal, HDDR was always our favorite and is still great as of our last time there several months back. We stopped going to the Luau after we got soaked going between the Poly and Luau Cove. The rain was coming in buckets and the wind was blowing off the lake. They handed out umbrellas where we exited the Poly, but almost all of them blew upside down. The rain stopped in time for the show and we were seated under the pavilion, but the cold wind still blowing off the lake on all the wet people made for a miserable experience and many of us left as soon as we had something to eat. You still have to get to Pioneer Hall in the rain, but at least it's fully enclosed.
