If you've seen the HDDR show, perhaps you can steer me the right direction.

I made HDDR reservations on the DDP understanding it would take 2TS per person, and I ended up with Category 3 seating for a 5pm show (need earlier show because of child).

Then I made HDDR reservations OOP for Cat 1 seating which was prepaid $161 (2A,1C 7yr).

How much better are the Cat 1 seats over the Cat 3 seats? I've seen the room layout online but can't really tell what it would be like in person.

From some quick calculations, I figure that if DH & I order TS entrees >$21 at two other TS restaurants then OOP for HDDR is better for us.

What would you do? Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing, I was thinking of making ADR's on friday for a category 2 seating, and was curious to others thoughts.

Because we booked it last minute, last year, we had Category 3 seating. It's elevated and off to the side. You still have a very good view, but you have to turn your head a bit.
So I wouldn't be afraid of category 3, though category 1 is definitely better seating.

Your math is basically correct. Like most 2-credit meals, HDDR is not a compelling value under the dining plan. Though it really depends on how it compared to your other ADRs. Because I'd estimate that 90% of the possible meal combinations at Disney, are not compelling values on the DDP either.
Basically, the "break even" point for any adult TS credit is approximately $34. (Then add in a $15 average QS and $3 snack, and you break even for the day). Thus, for HDDR you are getting less than break even value for your DDP credits. (But that holds true any time you get an entree under $25)

Yes, but don't you also have to account for the fact that HDDR includes a show? That's pretty much the reason it's 2 credits to begin with. If I recall correctly, HDDR has always been 2 DDP credits, even before they started using "Signature Dining Experience" to describe non-show restaurants like Le Cellier.

When you compare HDDR to Le Cellier, or any other 2-credit meal that doesn't include entertainment, I think that makes HDDR more worth it.
