Hoop Dee Doo Revue vs Mickey's BBQ vs Luau

:sunny: LUAU LUAU LUAU!!!! We loved it - the food was great - the show was great. HDDR was good too but we loved the Luau atmosphere. We were there in Nov. at the 8pm show -- we booked this 3months in advance and ended up with front row seats---awesome!!! :teeth:

Dear Finnie48--

I gave my honest opinion of the show-- After sitting through it, I was honestly astonished at the reviews I had read. I wish I had read some negative reviews beforehand-- and I posted my opinion so that others could be warned. I think that there are probably many people who are disappointed with the show, but never post that few for fear of offending folks like you.

And, I must say--we clearly weren't the only ones at our show who were not entertained. Two tables near us left before the show was over. OTOH, many people there were laughing and seemed to enjoy themselves. We came to the conclusion that the free beer was to blame. I honestly can't imagine any other cause.

I would like to add that we have been to DW 6 times in the last 10 years and are planning another trip in Sept/Oct. We always enjoy the trip and had really hoped to enjoy the HDDR. But we didn't.

Our family could have fun at a Nun Convention so I'm sure we would love HDR. I think we may choose to go.

But really, if you have graduated elementary school or have an IQ of 90- the HDDR should be avoided.

I really don't think it was the negative review that was what offended him. I think it was that you implied that anyone who enjoys the show is either stupid or drunk. :rotfl:

That being said, I have not seen the show myself and ours is the first negative review I have read. I do appreciate hearing from both the positive and the negative.

I'll tell you what I think in 94 days.

Thank you Mycroft,

Thanks for understanding my point - that was exactly what I meant!! We all have different tastes, and I am quite curious as to what you think in 94 days.

Have a most magical trip!!

To take offense at the opinion of a total stranger on a discussion board seems......overly sensitive. I didn't specify anyone in particular in my remarks. But I did want to convey just how awful the show was. We didn't come out of it with the attitude of "well, not really my cup of tea but I can see how some people would enjoy it", rather we came out of there utterly mystified that ANYONE could find it enjoyable.

We are going in July and have reservations at the Luau, HDDR and BBQ for a party of 11 - 6 adults, 5 kids (5-10). Anyone have any recent experiences - preferably post 2010 - with the above events? We have never done HDDR. Luau and BBQ back when I was much younger - so many moons ago that my younger sister, who will be going, doesn't remember either event.

HDDR appealed to me as I understand there is a/c. However, the BBQ has the characters for the kids and the Luau has the childrens' hula lessons and the fire finale. What does the HDDR offer, other than a/c and hokey jokes? I am concerned that the adults may not enjoy the HDDR as much as they would watching the children dance with the characters and/or hula. If we decide to forgo any of the above reservations, I would like to cancel as soon as possible to allow another group to make reservations.

First off, why dig up a 6 year old thread. Why not just ask. If you and your friends don't love HDDR, you all should have your pulses checked. It is fun, high energy, and the food is the best. I first went 17 years ago and have been back 8 times. Oct will be visit 10 to HDDR. Yes it's corny, but when Disney does corny, it's done right.

Really, adults will enjoy HDDR at least as much as the kids. Kids may not get the sarcasm, so pay attention. I know it may be unbearable but just grin and (yes, I am doing it) bear it. Going in June for 8th time and really looking forward. Relax, have a drink and go with the flow.

Apologies if my posting etiquette was incorrect. First time poster, long time reader.

We enjoy everything WDW has to offer, so I think I will keep all our reservations and sit back and enjoy.
