Hoop Dee Doo Review - Second thoughts

DD 8 brothers 13 love show ask every time when we tell them we are going to WDW if we are eating at HDD have fun:)

Sounds like its a piece of cake to get there is staying on property. How about for those poor, sad "off property" types like us....is it a hassle to get in and out?

You and family will have a blast,so don't worry be happy.::yes:: :wave2:

you can drive to Fort Wilderness and park by the entrance to the campground then catch an internal FW bus right there that will let you off maybe a hundred yard or so form HHHR ( piece of cake:)! )

There are three "must do's" for our family:

1. Stay on concierge floor.
2. Do a DiveQUEST
3. Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue!

We know that it is not a four star restaurant, maybe not even a two, but the food is about 25% of why we go. We love the show, the atmosphere, the wash boards at the end....all of it. It's a package that we love...absolutely impossible to find a cranky person there!

I was a bit concerned about going my first time too. I was taking my DD then 28 who's not a fan of country music, but I knew she'd like the food. Well, she ended up getting picked to go on stage as a can can girl and loved it. My granddaughter then 7 loved it too, of course loved seeing her mom on stage making a fool of herself.

Last February, I took my 80yo father to WDW, just him and I. I wanted to take him to the HDD because I knew he would love it, but he was being a grumpy butt before we left and said he didn't want to go. Well, he ended up loving WDW and saw the commercials for the HDD on the resort TV while we were there and said "Why aren't we going to go see that?" Now he wants to go back this February and we're taking my aunt/uncle in thier 70's, and that's one of the first things he said he wants to do.

It's fun for all ages. Ones who don't like it are usually to full of themselves to enjoy it.

lol, one thing i have never been accused of is being full of myself but there is always a first time:) ...i didn't think it was worth it since i can get the food next door for $15 and don't think people running around singing about strawberry shortcake( that is what that dry cake with dayglow pink goop on top is supposed to be btw) is really all that entertaining...i'll save my money and go to cirque.

Oopps, I'm sorry, I didn't read the other responses before I posted. I wasn't directing the comment to you, but please accept my appology. I feel the same way about thier strawberry shortcake in that it isn't real strawberry shortcake, but I think them singing about it is entertaining and hilarious.

And I love cirque too! I've seen it twice, but due to the cost, I probably won't be going back unless the show changes.

I am definately in the minority here, but I don't think the HDDR is worth the money. Just my opinion. We did not enjoy the food, but thats because we don't like that kind of food, not because it was bad. The show was cute and the performers were excellent.

On a side note, we had a table up front and center for the show and got our seats the day of the show. The performers gave our table a lot of attention and tried to get my son to go up on stage ( he wouldn't) To get the tickets we went to guest services at WDW and requested any last minute cancellations. It seems that they save a table for VIP's and release it the day of the show if there are no takers. This was a few years ago, so I don't know if that policy has changed.

My dd has just requested that we celebrate her 13th b-day at HDDR. We will be traveling with her girlfriend and her mother. Both girls will be turning 13 while we are there. That will be Oct '06. Maybe I should book it as soon as is humanly possible and then we can try for a front row table!!

lookingforward, you're not alone. I think everyone should try this show once, but if you want to sample the food, eat dinner at Trail's End (the same food, same kitchen). This can be so costly, especially for families. Back when we went our first time (1989), there actually use to be 3 types of pricing: adult, junior, and child. They need to take a look at the prices for this show and consider some discounts like they use to have in the past. JMHO!

We went in 2003 when my daughters were 9 & 12. They loved it! So much they wanted to do it again last month except I didn't book it. It may seem a little pricey, but it's well worth the money!
I going to book it now for our August 2005 trip.
Go- enjoy it!

At Cirque, you pay more for a ticket and don't get dinner or drinks with the show. ( even if you don't like the dinner ). For dinner and a show, the HDDR is pretty reasonable, if you like that kind of food and drink heavily, LOL!

HDD is a riot if you like corny slapstick humor. Best time I ever had at that was when a friend got picked to be Davey Crockett's angel. Watch out for the all you can drink sangria.

If you get Nancy's section, she's a great server.

Boys between the ages of 5 and 8 for some reason seem to like the humor so much that they end up gasping from laughter. My nephew sang "My Darling Clementine" for weeks afterward.

Does anyone know if there are kid offerings? I see someone mentioned mac and cheese. Can we order a hamburger or a pizza ahead of time? What is the number you call for this?

we barely drink ( husband might have a beer, that's it) so no way we'd ever get our money worth that way but to me Cirque is worth the cost ( entertainment wise) but Hddr isn't worth an extra $30 for the entertainment... that was the point i was trying to make but obviously failed at:) !
