We will be staying at AKL in July next year with our 12 year old son & we were wondering whether to do the Hoop De Doo Review or Mickeys backyard BarBQ. Ideally we would love to do both, but financial constraints make this impossible. Our son is a little past the character thing now, (it's not cool at 12!) so the HDDR may be more appropriate, but I wondered whether he will enjoy it or not.

Any advise from Disers with experience would be gratefully received

I have not done Mickey's Barbq..but have done Hoop dee doo....not for a long time though. My children were younger when we did it, they enjoyed it, food was ok....nothing to rave about. It is one of those things at Disney you might do once and never again. At least that was our experience....Rollicking, fun live show, entertainment was good.

My family didn't like HDDR, but a lot of people do. I think it is something you have to judge for yourself. The show is silly - kind of an old west comedy show, sort-of. It is hard to explain. The people who seem to really love it most are the ones that get picked for audience participation.

We have never done Mickey's BBQ. The advice that I got on that from other DISers was...
-It is outside, so weather can be a factor - especially rain or heat.
-Country music - only go if you like it.
-Would you enjoy dancing with Characters?
From the info. I gathered from others it sort-of sounded like a glorified Character meal.

Hope I helped.
