Hoop de doo is not at WL, it as at FW. I believe you can take a boat right to FW from Poly. It may stop at WL along the way. It probably only take 15 minutes, but I'd leave at least 1 hour ahead in case of waiting etc....

Plus there is alot to see at FW if you get there a little early.

There is not a direct boat from Polynesian Resort to Fort Wilderness.:)

You have several options:

Boat to Magic Kingdom from Poly
Boat from Magic Kingdom to Fort Wilderness(Pioneer Hall where The Hoop takes place is a short 2-3 minutes walk from the FW Dock)

Monorail from Poly to Magic Kingdom
Boat from Magic Kingdom to Fort Wilderness

Monorail from Poly to Contemporary Resort
Boat from Contemporary Resort to Fort Wilderness

I would allow 1 hour(to be safe) for any of the 3 options.

The fastest way? A taxi. About a 10 min ride.

Plan on an hour for the boats or buses just to be safe. Better to be early that stressed for being late.

But a taxi will leave you at the front gate of FW, no where near Pioneer Hall. You will have to wait for, and then take an internal bus to Pioneer Hall.
Personally, I like one of the boat options better.

Boat from MK is the best. Taxi is a very far walk.

If we are staying offsite and have a rental car would we be better off driving and taking the internal bus, or could we take the boat from MK? I'd love to take the boat if it will work for us.

That is our off day, so we will not be at MK that day, do you have to have a park ticket for that day to use the boat?

no the boat is outside the gates so you don't need tickets

You could take the bus,but you would have to Park in the Magic Kingdom lot, then take the Ferry or Monorail to the Fort Wilderness Dock outside Magic Kingdom.:)

Then you would have to reverse the procedure after the HDDR,which could be a little "tricky" if you are going to the late show and Magic Kingdom closes "early" that day.:)

We went to the HDDR last week and we stayed off property. We parked at FW and took the bus back to Pioneer Hall. Very quick and easy. We booked the late show, but got there early to sit on the beach and watch the MK fireworks from afar, they pipe in the music.

Takes about 45-60 minutes. But I would take the boat, from MK! We stayed in the cabins last trip and the boat from MK going around the Contemporary is worth it, especially at night!

We always stay at the Poly and take Monorail around to Contemporary, elevator down...out to dock and jump on boat that goes to WL then FW. Takes about 30 minutes...lets you off close to where you need to be. Fun trip and we can bring "beverages" also! To come home boat to either MK or Contemporary then monorail to Poly. (If I am remembering correctly!...correct me if I am not anyone!)

No park tickets but will need to pay for parking
