Hoop Dee Do or Cirque Du Soleil

  • Hoop Dee Doo and try for Catagory 1

  • Cirque Du Soleil and get Catagory 3

  • Both are a waste of money

OK, Planning our August trip and we will only do one extra while at WDW. Last year we did the Royal Table for DD9 birthday. This year I am not sure which I should do but both of these seem like good ideas.
For now we have DS11, DD9, DD5, DD5 and DW and I going. The oldest two are staying home.
I would like some advice from the experts. So which one?
If we go to Hoop Dee Doo we will try to get Catagory 1.
If we go to Cirque Du Soleil we will have to go with Catagory 3.

Cirque is amazing. I've seen the show in Orlando, and a few of the Vegas shows as well. I have seen my share of live performance, and Cirque is up there on the top. I took my high school dance team (as the director) in 2005 to Disney and us seeing Cirque was one of the best parts of the trip.

We have done both shows, 2x. We have done Hoop de Doo with Category 1 seating and the seating towards the back of the hall. We didn't care as much for the Category 1 seating. We were directly against the stage and felt like we were looking upwards too much to see the stage show. We did however have CM's at our table during the show. For Cirque du Soleil we have done Category 1 seating and Front & Center seating. Both were excellent. Based on the theater layout, there really is no bad seat, so I would say that Category 3 is fine.

Regarding the actual show, Cirque du Soleil HANDS DOWN. I would watch that show standing on my head in the lobby looking thru the doorway. The show is unbelievably amazing.

Our firstborn DS has seen the show twice, once at age 4 and another time at age 8. He was mezmorized both times. Our second born DS saw the show for the first time this past September at the age of 2 yrs 11 mo and was glued to the show until falling asleep about 2/3 way through.

Again, if I were choosing between Hoop de Doo and Cirque du Soleil, I would take Cirque du Soleil over Hoop de Doo, regardless of seating.

We have done both and really enjoyed both. However, I plan on doing Hoop Dee Doo every chance I get until death. I have seen Cirque and doubt I will do it again unless they change the show. I think you owe it to yourself to see both at some point. I should mention that either ticket is a big item for us, so I don't throw Benjamins around like confetti when at Disney!

I had front and center seats for Cirque and would recommend a seat further from the stage; at that distance you can't really see everything that is going on and you feel like your head is on a pivot trying. For Hoop, I would always want cat 1 and feel like you're part of the show.

Finally, Cirque doesn't feed you! I have heard some bad reviews of Hoop food. That hasn't been my experience! We love the food, especially the ribs! And don't forget the bottomless beer and wine. If beer was $5 a glass then I drank enough beer to pay for my ticket and got dinner and a show for free! LOL. Sorry, I know this hasn't made picking any easier. I would commit to myself to do one this trip and the other next, that would make skipping the runner-up easier.

This is why I am asking. With my size family it aint cheap to do anything Disney!! Be even more expensive if the older two make up their minds and come along!!
I had planned on the Hoop for this trip than was told how amazing the cirque is. Thats why I am stuck!!

Thank you to everyone for your help!

I have not seen Cirque, and if I have my way, I probably never will (I'm not into dudes in tights).

If you are camping, and your kids have never been to the Hoop Dee Doo, I don't even think there is any choice to make- you have to go to the Hoop. At the age your children are, they will love it. When they are teenagers, they will complain that it is too corny (although I still think that teenagers secretly love it).

And, you get to eat too.

The deal sealer for me is the "free" beer. You aren't going to get that at the show with the men in tights.

We just came home Saturday and i would say that my boys, 9 &11, LOVED the hoop dee doo. they saw the other the last time. i think the problem with the cirque is that there is so much going on its hard to see it all in one show. That food at the Hoop was great, the 9 yr old, skinny, polished off 2 buckets of ribs himself and bucket of drumlegs. That sight alone was worth it.....lol

We loved the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
I would go see it again. We have done Cirque in our area but not down there. I really don't care to go see it again. I know they are different shows but it is still the same idea.

We've seen both and enjoy both. I want our kids to see the Cirque as we thought it was amazing. I watched the making of one of the Cirque shows and was completely blown away as to how much training they go through. It is well worth the money in our eyes and there is something there for everyone.

We had cat. 1 for the HDDR and agree we were way to close to the stage. We actually were sitting on top of the piano player! (At least it felt like it to me).

I voted HDDR, but would NOT go for a Cat 1 - I'd go for a 2 so you're not so on top of the actors, or the 3's up in the balcony were a lot of fun too with a great view - my 11 yo son even got into the act from up there much to his embarrassment. "MOM! You told me we wouldn't get in the act!" ...... OOPS hehehehe

Thats what I am looking for.... to let the kids have a chance to get involved to some degree and not feel like they each need field glasses to see the stage!
Embarressment is a good thing!!! :goodvibes
