Our big trip to Disney is set for 10-21-02. There are 4 adults and 2 children (ages 16 and 11). My husband, son, and brother in law are country boys who love shows like Hee Haw, etc. We can only do the Hoop Dee Doo OR Backyard BBQ. If you could only pick one, which would you pick?

If you are a big fan of hokey jokes than I think I would gowith the HoopDeeDoo. I have found that the food is pretty good and the show is goofy. If you still can't decide we make sure we hit the Diamond Horseshoe review in Frontierland and that is a short version of the similar show.

My fiance' and I went to the HDDR in July and to be honest with you, it was one of the highlights of our trip. We thought the food was great as well as the show. I was also called on stage to dress up and participate which was a nice touch. I'm not sure about your other choice (haven't heard of it), but I don't think you can go wrong doing the Hoop Dee Doo. Have fun. :)

Kristy-We went to the HDDR last Nov. (we loved it) and we have ressies for BBBQ next week. When we get back, I'll try to remember to post on here and tell you which we liked better. Hope that helps.

I just posted this exact same question on another discussion board. I am in the same boat, and am looking forward to more responses. The big issue for me is that the All American Backyard Barbeque is about $10 less per person, so I want to know if Hoop De Doo is worth the extra money... Anyone????:D

Hoop de doo!!!! If you're looking to save a little money... it's hard at WDW isn't it?!.... if you're doing the white glove thing (meaning that you're paying for your lodging for at least 2 nights with an American Express Card you can get a discount at HDDR or if you're paying for the HDDR w/ AmEx one of the shows (I can't remember which one 9 pm I think) offers a discount.

We've seen the HDDR about 3 or 4 times and have loved it each time! I haven't been to the BYBQ sorry.

HOOP DE DOO !!!!!

What a blast !!!! We went this past December and had sooooo much fun. Highly recommended !!!!!!

I would definitely choose Hoop Dee Doo, especially with older children. The food is great and they will enjoy the humor. The Backyard BBQ, was buffet style and to me, the food wasn't quite as good. Plus it is outside so you have to deal with the weather and bugs. It also features characters, which may not appeal as much to older kids. We went to both shows with my DS's (4 & 6 for both trips) and they both loved HDD. I think the heat was getting to us at the BBQ. At HDD you are served your meal while the show is going on and you can just eat and enjoy the entertainment. It was one of those shows we still all talk about it.

Hope this helps!

Unfortunately I can't compare the two for you but I can tell you that my usual sort of stickie in the mud husband loved the HOOP DE DOO and wants to do it again (even if we go without the kids in November like we are hoping).

I liked the fact that it was inside and so no chance of cancellation due to weather etc (and who wants to be the main course with the bugs - if you go with it, put on bug spray!)

The jokes ARE corney but that is the fun and the food was good. My daughter is picky and she loved the fried chicken.

I think the older kids may go for the show better than the character interaction (and you can always do a character meal if they want that).

Have fun.

We're Back!! We landed this morning and I just put in our last load of laundry. As I mentioned earlier, we went to the HDDR last Nov and all of us loved it. This past Tues we tried MBBBQ and didn't feel so pleased. First of all, you line up in this really long line and go through the buffet lines cattle-chute style. The food was fine because we were expecting outdoor BBQ fare. Then you go find a picnic table and slide all the way to the end. After a little bit they announce Mickey and friends and it becomes a character greeting nightmare. HUGE amounts of people converge on these characters. Before the line of greeting was done the characters took a break and a band played (pretty good music) and a guy came out and taught a completely packed dance floor how to line dance. My 7yo DD who loves to dance went through the motions to make me happy but was obviously not enjoying herself. Finally, when I asked the family if they wanted to leave they all shouted a relieved "yes!"

My review is this-You'll like it if:
-you have very young kids
-you have very social kids -or-
-you have a group of people that will enjoy goofing off on the dance floor

You won't like it if:
-you have kids over 6
-you don't like noise and mass chaos
-you want a laid back outdoor BBQ

Worst $125 I spent this vacation because I went expecting the laid back BBQ. I think you said that you had teens so I suggest the HDDR
