Hoop-Dee-Doo - is it worth it?

lisabarr - the little boy in the picture is soooooo cute. If I may ask what ailment does he have that he is in a wheelchair? My lille bother has muscular
dystrophy and has been confined to a wheelchair as of this year (he is now 11). Such a cute boy yours is!!

He has Legg-Calve Perthes disease. Where the femoral head of the hip bone has lost its blood supply and the bone is disintegrating. It is not a permanent condition. Will last about 4 years. We are very lucky to have an awesome Shriners hospital here in Tampa doing research. He has to stay in the chair so that the bone will regrow in a round shape eliminating the need for painful surgeries and a hip replacement when he's older. Not allowed to walk, run or do anything fun. He also wears a leg brace at night to sleep in which he hates. :crazy2:
He is cutie though. My genes of course :rotfl:

We have reservations for the Hoop de Doo in Dec, but I am beginning to wonder if it is worth $50 per person. We will also have our 2 year old with us. Is it something she might enjoy or will she get bored?

IT WAS FANTASTIC! When someone asks me the top things that come to mind from our trip to WDW last November, the first two things that I say are:

1) Fantasmic

2) Hoop-dee-doo !

We just thought it was so much fun. It was something different, but the way it was done, it made you want to go back! You may decide AFTER you see it, you have a different opinion, but it's ont of those things you have to at least try!

We are going for our third HDDR show this coming July. We always have a good time. Our DD who is now 5 first saw the show at 2 1/2 and then again at 3 1/2. She loved it. It kept her entertained with all the dancing and singing. Our DS will be 23 months when we see it and hopefully he'll like it too.

It's great! We go back every few years! Definitely worth the money, you will have a great time! :)

It is a great experience/ show and the food is good. However, we do not do it every trip as it is expensive. When we want the atmosphere and the same food, we go to the Trail's End Buffet, which is next door. The show is great though so you have to do it at least once!!

Don't cancel......the food is good, great ribs and chicken and the show is great. It is alot of fun with the singing and dancing. I'm sure you little one will have a great time. It is expensive but you should try it at least once. alot of fun!

I would say Yes Yes Yes it is definately worth it. My dh convinced me to schedule it on our last trip. He used to go as a kid and loved it. I was a little apprehensive considering the price. I figured if he thought it was so funny as a kid that as adults we may not really like it. Well we loved it. My dd who was 11 at the time and my brother in law who was 13 were laughing so hard. Anyone with kids this age know how hard it is to get a good laugh out of them. My other dd who turned 2 while on the trip loved it too. The waitress was so nice and treated her like royalty. They kept telling her how pretty she was and she was eating it up. We ended up with the latest show because we did not schedule early enough and she stayed up for the entire thing. We laughed about it all the way back to the hell. It was a blast and I would do it again even if they raised there prices. As a matter of fact when I asked my now 12yo dd what is the one thing she definately wants to do again on the next trip it was hoop de doo. I can't say enough good things about it. pixiedust:

When you view the amount of money in the abstract, the answer seems like it should be no. But when you consider how much you'll end up spending on dinner that night anyway if you're staying on site, the calculation seems to be a little different. For example, we've had plenty of sit down dinners that cost almost as much -- one in paticular at Spoodles that was very disappointing -- where we sort of wish we'd gone to HDD for just a little more.

I think it's a fun splurge to do once. The show's ok, the food's a little better than average considering it's made for such a large group, but the highlight for us was making the trek to pioneer hall. The setting is cool if you're not staying at FW.

Is this a good one to do for someone's birthday, DS will turn 7 I was planning on booking this for his bitrhday. Do they do anything special? Thanks Kathy

Oh yes, it's worth it. Where else can you get dinner and an enjoyable show for $50.00. One of the best bargains at Walt Disney World, in my humble opinion.

Enjoy.

We saw both HDD and Spirit of Aloha last week. Both shows were great. . . food was delish at both.
My husband was pulled on stage for HDD so that added to that experience. My 4 year old thought the HDD group had stolen a Wiggles song - but of course he knew all the words so he could sing along. The only negative about HDD that we found is that we really felt rushed. The tables around us felt the same thing. I like to enjoy my dessert with a tea or coffee and a few minutes to chat with my dinner companions would have been nice - but our server was too busy clearing up to even see me asking for a coffee. We didn't even manage to get his attention for drink refills.
Spirit of Aloha was a bit more relaxed. There was certainly more time to eat and ask for seconds. And yes, I managed a cup of coffee with my dessert. Which was needed as it was a cold night and you are outdoors (sheltered but definitely outside)
Both are definitely worth it for the $. Definitely a bargain for disney. I would recommend both for food and entertainment.

Both HDD and Spirit of Aloha do special things for birthday. Spirit of Aloha had birthday boys & girls on stage for a birthday hula. HDD had the entire audience sing and hoot and holler! I'm sure you could also ask for a special dessert to be served as well.

Yes, the entertainers have a portion of the show where they roam the dining hall and even the balcony asking people if they are celebrating birthdays or anniversaries. Jokes and singing are then dispensed. Not a huge deal, but very nice.

Exactly...you said it better than I did in my first post. At first I thought we were rushed a bit because we were the first show (and another one roaring in behind us), but then I realized the meal was really pegged entirely to the show, so it is probably the same regardless of hour.

I will say, though, that our excellent server (Barbara, I'm pretty sure) managed to ask about and dispense refills, including my much-needed second sangria!! ("Cheers!" she said brightly.) She was also polite enough to laugh at our own corny jokes. She had bragged about what a prized position a HDDR server was, and then participated in the ritual dessert parade. I then told her, "Hey, you weren't kidding...this job really IS a cake-walk!" (Auggh...)

The Hoop Show is a Disney Original. You have to go at least once.
When ever we go to WDW we ask the kids (16 & 14 now) do you want to go to the Hoop....Always a resounding yes!
