Hoop Dee Do or Spirit of Aloha Luau?

Hi I just wanted to get people's opinions. We are a party of 8, 3 adults and 5 children DS13, DS12, DD11, DD10 and DD9 years old. We would like to do one on our next trip in August.
4 of us ( 2 adults and 2DD's) have done Hoop Dee Do 3 years ago, we were willing to participate. We had a great time. We have never done the luau and I have read some reviews that were not so good. Since I trust my Dis friends opinions, I would really appreciate some feedback. Also if you have been in Category 2 or 3 at the Luau, how did you find the seating?

We've been to both and I think the Luau pales in comparison to Hoop de Doo. While at HDDR, any category of seating gives you a good experience, we sat in category 3 for the luau and weren't fans.

Stick with HDDR! The food and show are much better.

We've done both and HDDR is a lot more fun -- especially for the kids. We went to the 9:30 p.m. show in early April. I have TIW and that is the only show at which the discount is allowed. I bought category 3. Our table was the best, but I think that's because they didn't need to use the balcony seating at all.

Thanks guys. I only read good things about HDD and not so great about the luau. We loved it so I think that is what we will go with instead of the luau.

Hoop Dee Do for sure. Luau is OK, but for us, not nearly as much fun as the HDR. Plus, no weather worries as it is indoors.

I think the Luau is better if you like to watch and not be part of the action......HDD is much more interactive with how the food is served and the show coming off the stage to you.

If it was just my wife and I, we would prefer the Luau.....if it was the whole family HDD. The seating can be pretty far from the stage at the Luau....but you can usually see everything going on, just not right on top of the action like HDD.
