Hi everyone,

Can you give me your opinion on which of the above shows would be better for a family with kids? (Kids are 13, 10 and 6). My husband and I went to Hoop de Doo on our honeymoon 16 years ago but don't remember that much at this point and weren't seeing it from a kid's perspective.

Which would you pick?

Thanks!!

Shar

I've only been to the Hoop-dee-Doo, not the luau, but from everything I've ever read, the Hoop-dee-Doo wins hands down. Our family loved it, and your kids are great ages for it as long as the 6-year-old can handle sitting at a table for a sustained (albeit entertaining) period and the loud music.

We have seen both and the HDDR wins hands down. I enjoyed the HDDR and it had us rolling. :rotfl2:

HDDR is the one to go to. My parents go every year and they tried to Luau but said it wasnt that great and the tables are squished together. More tables = more money.

We go to Hoop De Doo every Disney visit, we love it!!!! But I can't compare it to the luau, sorry. Your kids are at great ages to understand the humor. My kids love it, but don't completely understand all of the humor. It's great!

We did the HDDR when my kids were 7 and 3, and they LOVED it!! Ok, my 7 y/o got it more than the 3 y/o, but they were both thoroughly entertained. It was worth the $$ in my opinion.

My dh and I did the luau back in 1994, and we didn't care for it. I think they've changed it since then, but we wouldn't try it again.

So, my vote would be for the HDDR!!

We went to the Luau last Oct. My ds was 7. We were able to get a "kids" meal for him (chicken nuggets, mac n cheese, and mini hot dogs) I believe! My dh and I enjoyed the food except for the desert (which was awful). But, we thought the show was pretty lame! Definately not up to par with other Disney shows! My ds thought the fire dancer was great, but didn't really enjoy much else. It just kinda drug on if you know what I mean! I am glad we did it, but we won't go back any time soon! Maybe eventually Disney will imporve the show! I am planning on HDDR for our up-coming trip! :cheer2:

We went to both Oct 2003.
with Our kids: DD10, DS8 and DD5 (at that time)

We all liked the Luau but LOVED the Hoop de Doo. So much so that we are going in April on DD 12th birthday (her pick!)
Nobody had a great interest in seeing the Luau again anytime soon.

Hope that helps....Most of all enjoy whatever you pick.

I haven't been to the Luau in years. It was an entertaining show but the food was not a hit with our party of 5.

We've been to the Hoop Dee Doo several times and have enjoyed it each and every time. The fried chicken is a big hit with our family and my husband likes the ribs and dessert. The last time we went to the HDD, my daughter was two and a half and she absolutely loved the show. She just thought the singing and dancing was great and even laughed at the corny jokes when the rest of the audience laughed even though she didn't understand what she was laughing at ;) .

We went to HDDR and it was awesome!! The food was okay but it was the show that totally blew us away. My highlight was watching DS14 laughing from begining to end. He is going thru the stage where he is to cool :cool1: for anything and seeing him laughing like that (without any bathroom humour) was great!! :earsboy:

I know that this show sells out all the time, but there is no way we can reserve this ahead of time (long story). My plan is to play it by ear and if all the planets align we'll try to get a spot the day of. Has anyone else had luck doing this?

Also, how does the luau work? Is it at a specific time? Do you make reservations ahead of time? How much is it?

Depends on the time of year TP. If you're open to which show to attend, that should help also as the 9:30 show usually fills up last.

Do you have the MYW +dining? If you do then you can use two table service meals per person and reserve it now. Thats what I did. We have very specific places we want to eat while in WDW. Planet Hollywood is one of them and Foodquest is another one. Both in DTD on the very first day we arrive. Neither of these places take the new dining plan (since they are not technically WDW places. Foodquest is owned and operated by The Cheesecake Factory) so we are using the table service meals that would have gone for those for the Hoop Dee Doo Revue.

Btw, has anyone eaten at Foodquest? I noticed the other day that it is owned and operated by The Cheesecake Factory. Can you tell me if it is any good?

There is a Cheesecake Factory in Indianapolis, IN that DD and I eat at EVERYtime we go to Indy for Girl Scout stuff and we love it.

We've not done the Luau, but my kids (11, 9, and 7) loved Hoop-De-Du. It's one of their favorite memories of WDW from our trip last summer.

Does anybody think that the HDDR will be entertaining enough to keep my 2 yr old occupied while we are there. He really likes music and loves to dance (even when he's sitting).
