I had a question for anyone who has been to see HDDR with little ones. We've never been before and are thinking of going our next trip. However, we don't know if our 3 year old DD will like it? The food sounds fine and I am sure me and DH will enjoy the show, but we are concerned that she might not like it. She had a blast at character meals last year, but we never tried out any of the shows.

Any advice and thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

I took our oldest son to Hoop Dee Doo when he was 18 months, and then again when he was either 2 or 3 years old. I think he enjoyed it more than the adults - especially the parts where everyone waves napkins around and bangs spoons against washboards! Perfect dinner activities for a little one! The music is fun and festive, there is so much to see and the food comes quickly - it was great for him.

Now that our two older boys are pre-teens, the show isn't as appealing to them, so we haven't been in a while. But the food was very good, the sangria was great and it was lots of fun for little ones!

Have a great time! :wizard:

I was wondering the same thing. Our next trip will be at the end of this year & my DS will be 3. If you're not sure about this show, maybe consider Mickey's Backyard BBQ. We took our DS last month and he loved it! They have Mickey, Minnie, Goofy & Chip n Dale come out & dance. And the kids can all go on the dance floor & dance by the characters!

We did Hoop De Doo with a 1 year old and a 4 year old last January. The baby was fine with it and the 4 year old really enjoyed it. That being said, I think they liked dinner at CRT better - and the 4 year old still breaks out the wand they gave her every couple of weeks.

We took out DD at 3 and 4. We went back the second time because it was probably the highlight of the previsou trip for her. Her eyes were glued to the stage. She barely even ate because she was too into the show. She LOVED it.

My not-quite four-year-old son loved it. And I mean LOVED it. He was signing and dancing and stomping for, literally, an hour after left and he still sings what he calls "the cowboy song" after we've been home for almost a month.

The food was mediocre, at best, but we'd return to Hoop Dee Doo for the show and all it's cheesy, corny fun.

We just got back and went to this show. It was one of our favorite parts of the trip. My husband was asked to help out in several parts of the show because he was wearing his huge sombrero. This show is so much fun. The food is pretty good (except I didn't like the mashed potatoes. They were cold and waxy). But, the ribs were delicious. My 9 year old son laughed the entire time. I would recommend this to anyone!

You must've gotten a bad batch. I LOVED the mash potatoes there. Now the cowboy beans ...YUCK! No one I know likes them. LOL~!

1 year old and 3 year old who loved it. My 3 year old barely touched his strawberry shortcake because he was too busy watching the show. It takes something special to draw his attention away from sugar.

I took a bite of both when we went in December and if these aren't boxed potatoes (and canned beans) I'd be totally shocked. (And if they're not, they did something to make them taste exactly like the telltale cardboard flavor of potato buds.) The chicken tastes exactly like the Swanson frozen stuff my dad used to serve sometimes (my mother died young; lots of convenience food in our house growing up). In fact, I think that's what it might be, actually, because it brought back instant memories.

I say, go for the show, don't go for the food ... It's edible, but that's about it. If you happen to be one of the ones who think it's manna from heaven than you'll be pleasantly surprised. If not, you won't be disappointed.

Went to Hoop Dee Doo in 2009 with DS4. I saw the youtube videos and read reviews and didn't think DS would like it. I wasn't interested either but I figured why not try it, something different.

Well DS4 laughed non-stop the whole show. Go figure. Food was half decent too. Had Category 2 seating - fine. Waitress was hilarious, joking with us a lot. My beer glass was never empty.

I like the photo they took too with the whole cast on one side, our photo on the other side. Worth the $30.

Mickey's backyard BBQ at Ft. Wilderness is also fun. In 2008, DS3 had fun there too -- he liked the rope tricks and dancing with the characters to country music. Food was OK, typical picnic food, nothing special. But all you can eat Mickey ice cream bars for children.... and plenty of beer/wine for the adults.

I have photos of both I can post later.

We took our 5 year old and 3 year old. both had a great time.
They brought out mac and cheese for both them to eat.
They loved the music and dancing.
Had a great time with the washboards.
Go have fun.

Our young 4 year old laughed and laughed. He didn't get the jokes, but laughed anyway. It's pretty relaxed and the food is simple too.

Have fun!

Our DS was a little older when we went but there were a ton of kids there and they all seemed to be having a blast. It's light and funny and not over the top loud!
We liked the food fine too.

We first took our kids to HDDR when they were 5 and just shy of 3. They LOVED it. They may not have understood every joke but they sure laughed like they did.:rotfl2: My DS had rib sauce from ear to ear.

Thank you everyone for your input! We managed to score a show on one of our last days and I am so excited to bring DD. I have also been wanting to go for so long! I can't wait! :yay:

Have a great time! Be sure to kid around with your waiter/waitress a bit...could result in a little extra fun.

Glad to read all the postive feedback! :goodvibes
In all our trips to the World we have never seen this show (seems like we might be one of the few!). We finally booked it for our May trip. I think our kids (7 & 9) will really enjoy it. :)
