Can anyone give me some advice please? We just got an iPad and I don't know how or what is the easiest and best router to hook it to the wired service in the wow rooms. Thanks!

Apple's Airport Express is very portable, but should be setup with some security parameters using an actual computer before use. Apple has an application to do this, but it cannot be done from the iPad itself. Once set up, though, access through an iPad should be fine.

Most other wireless access points have a web-based setup, which can be accessed from the iPad through a browser (Safari, or any other browser you may have installed). D-Link makes a portable one: DWL-G730AP that might work for you. I have not used it, but it seems to get good reviews.

It's too bad guests have to jump through hoops to get wireless internet in room...

I second the recommendation of an Airport Express. It's very small and portable and easy to setup. As the previous poster mentioned, you will need to do the initial setup on a computer, which can easily be done at your home before you leave for the trip. It's pretty simple.

There are rumors that a forthcoming operating system update for the iPad (and other iOS devices) will allow you to setup an Airport Express from your iPad. That would make this process even easier.

I just did this this past week and it was pretty easy (after I noticed that the modem on the wall was unplugged).

I brought my Belkin wifi router from home - plugged the Disney black cable into the yellow slot on the Belkin - plugged it in - opened my browser on the iPad and it worked.

It's not a very fast connection though - I got under 1 mbps.

I used to think that it would be too much hassle for Disney to put ubiquitous wireless on their resort properties.

Then I stayed at the Grand Californian.

I was expecting a similar setup to WDW, so I brought a laptop and was planning on using that to share out the wired connection to my iDevices.

Nope. Ubiquitous wifi. Hotel room, lobby, even a smidge outside on the walkways. The speed was pretty dreadful once everyone was back in their rooms for the evening, but it was nice to have for all those things that require a wifi connection rather than 3G.

I purchased a Cisco Valet Wifi router from Best Buy when I was in WDW May last year. Did set it up using laptop and ethernet cable initially, but then was recognised by iPhone, iPad etc.

It lives in our Owners Locker box between visits.

While I love my apple products I just bought a cheap (around $40) router at Target for traveling. I set it up with my computer and now its just plug and play. And since I did not pay that much for it If it gets damaged during my travels its not as big of a loss.

Much cheaper than my Cisco Valet - $95!
