Some names have been changed to protect the incompetent.
We were really looking forward to this trip to Disney. After all, it had been 3 months and 4 days since our last visit to The House of the Mouse, and we were starting to go through withdrawal. We had originally planned to arrive at Disney on Sunday, August 10th, but we realized that dh had a ton of Hilton points just sitting there, unused. We needed to rectify the situation. It was time to dip into the points. And as dh and I convinced ourselves, since we had the room taken care of and AP's it was like going for free (yeah, yeah, we had to eat, but we do that at home too...)
We looked at hitting the road early on Friday, but as responsible parents we knew there was no way we could take ds out of school for the day, so we left home at about 2:30, after school was out for fall break (translation: ds had a field trip that day, and NO WAY was he missing it, so dh and I had to let him go to school).
We hopped into dh's F150 Supercrew, which is his pride and joy, and "Big Blue" carried us down to the most Magical Place on Earth. One of the things we like the most about staying in the Towers is the seperate concierge check-in on the 9th floor. We got to the hotel at about 9:15, and went up to check in. Once we arrived at the concierge desk, we were greeted by the delightful Holly, and the employee-who-shall-remain-nameless who was so tired he was flopped down in one of the two chairs at the registration desk. We knew he was tired, because he didn't have the strength to acknowledge us, speak, or get his butt out of the chair so we could sit down... but I digress...
Holly was very pleasant as she checked us in. I asked her if they had taken care of my requests that they remove all of the down from the room before vaccuuming and that they had double sheeted the beds. Holly assured me that they had, and that she had sent a second message to housekeeping to make sure it was done promptly. Wonderful!
We stopped by the room, checked out the bathroom to make sure it wasn't full of mold and the bodily fluids and hairs of the previous guests, and took off for DTD, to grab something to eat.
We ate at the Earl of Sandwich. DS had the Turkey Club, and DH and I both had the Full Montague. I had been dreaming of this sandwich since July, and it lived up to my expectations. It was so good!!! After dinner, we walked around DTD, and checked out the different shops. All in all, it was a relaxing night. At around 11:00, we headed back to our room, for a restful night's slumber before hitting the parks on Saturday.
We got in the room, and prepared for bed. I tucked DS in, and we watched the PI Fireworks from our room (great view). As I started to recline back on my bed to do some reading, I realized that I felt a migraine setting in... how unusual... ds starts sneezing from his bed... hmmm, wierd... I go to get in the bed, and feel my pillow, and it's kinda lumpy... hmmm... what's this??? FEATHERS!!! That's right ladies and gentlemen. After requesting it ahead of time, and confirming when I checked in, we STILL had feather pillows and feather comforters.
So, I pick up the phone and call the Front Desk person (Holly has long since left for home). I explained our requests, and that it was for medical reasons. She-Who-Is-An-Idiot responded with, "Well, I MIGHT be able to find you a pillow or two... we'll bring it up in a minute."
I respond, "No, No, you don't understand... I'm allergic to down. It causes me to have migraines and asthma attacks. I need new pillows, comforters or blankets without feathers, and new sheets (that haven't touched the feathers)".
She responds, "It'll be about 30 minutes. Have a nice night." click...
After I finish staring at the phone, I relay the conversation to dh. He asks me, "Didn't they say they already took care of this?" Yes, but obviously that means nothing here. Apparently Paris took another housekeeping job, this time at her dad's hotel in DTD.
Phone rings again... what do you know... it's She-Who-Is-An-Idiot! She's calling to tell me that they have no blankets in the hotel. Hello... a hotel the size of the Hilton DTD, and they have no blankets? I try to reason with her, and finally point out that Wal-Mart is open 24/7, and they have a fine selection of acceptable blankets. She responds... Oh, BLANKETS... I think we do have some of those. It'll be 30 more minutes (time is now 12:15)
Five minutes later... She-Who-Is-An-Idiot calls back. They now have blankets, but they don't have pillows. They will have to go check through all the empty rooms on a pillow scavenger hunt. It'll be an hour. I hang up the phone, dh asks me for an update, but all I can do is sputter, wheeze, sneeze, and hold my aching head. I pop some drugs, and dh heads downstairs for a talk with the general manager.
Ten Minutes later... dh is back. He tells me the manager, One-with-Brains is taking care of the problem. Apparently he told dh, that our things had been delivered 30 minutes earlier. He-With-Brains called She-Who-Is-An-Idiot, and within minutes, our linens and pillows were being changed. We settled down for our peaceful night's slumber at 1:15am. I wake up at 1:30 in the middle of an asthma attack. Spend the next hour trying to decide whether or not to go to the hospital, and finally fall asleep around 3:00. Note to self: I don't think we'll be making those 8:00 reservations for Breakfastsaurus...
