has anyone used one of these? seems like a good idea( since i couldn't see my screen at all outside last week) and the ability to cover the screen seems good as far as keeping it clean and scratch free and pretty reasonable but any pros and cons please..

my biggest concern was would taking the eye piece off mean i couldn't adjust the viewfinder vision. not sure where the mechanics for that are located or if you are only taking off the rubber part.

thanks

I have tried it and I don't particularly care for it. I can more or less tell if my images are in focus when I shoot them. When I have time, I go back and erase those that were no good.

To protect my LCD screen, I buy those Palm Pilot screen laminates, cut them for size and then stick it directly onto the LCD screen. When that gets scratched up, I peel it off and replace it with a new laminate.

looks like a hunk of plastic on the back of the cam that tries to do what could be accomplished by shading the screen with your hand.
Have you turned the screen brightness all the way up? When you are outside...
Trust your autofocus and that you used it accurately. Take a few shots in case of error. Then trust your histogram for exposure.

basically that's the problemm i can read the settings in the view finder or the little rectanglualr screen abobe the lcd but can't see to change the settings if need be...most days it's fine but this day was very bright/sunny( nearly unheard of in NEOhio but that 's a different problem)
and i couldn't see the lcd even in the shade which is how i got overexposed, small images trying to get the histogram turned "off" (so i could maybe see the picture instead of the little thumbnail plus info )and hitting evidently every wrong button I could hit i have it turned up all the way already but was thinking i might have a problem like this in some locations where the sun shines more than 20 days a yr.

i also noticed( separate problem) i have the parameters set for something i don't want but can't seem to get it back to default...any way to do this without putting everything to default. i tried going ot "set 1" , and it is all on zero but then when i go to "parameter 1" again, it is set where i don't want it. it evidently is not resetting it back to default like i want it to( followed what they said in the book about setting it but maybe need to do something different to reset to default :confused3 ) i thought maybe i could set one for the odd sunny day and then just set that pre shooting for the day if need be

I use the Delkin Pop-up Shade (Pro Series) on my 20D and love it. :thumbsup2

The cover is very well designed, mounts on to the back of the camera sliding on the eye piece holder (completely removable), and fit and finish are top notch. The colors and text design match the original look to a tee.

I mostly keep the shade closed (as I don't review every picture I take immediately), and it will offer some shading opened when trying to view pictures outside or in bright lights. The greatest two advantages I have found with the cover is that if I have the shade cover removed from the rest of the kit, it has a built in lcd protector. The second (which I find the biggest) is with the shade closed it covers the lcd and keeps moisture and oils from the skin off the LCD.

The only negative I would say is that because the shade is removable from the rest of the mount, it can be bumped off.

I also use the delkin pro series on my Minolta 7D, I also like it and the extra protection it offers..
