I wasn't going to write this but more people keep telling me they wished they had done something like that for their parents at their wedding. So I decided to share it because it might give someone ideas.
My parents 39 year anniversary was the day after our wedding and at their wedding they never had a first dance. So we surprised them with their first dance after 39 years of marriage. The song we chose was one that my my dad quotes passages from when he send roses to her. My husband made the speech because I said I would choke up and wouldn't be able to finish. So he said he would make it and by the end of the speech about my parents he started to cry. It was so touching to see how much he loves my parents. When their dance was over I presented my mom with a bouquet that was just like the bouquet she had at her own wedding 39 years ago. Disney did a wonderful job and they even tied a pink ribbon in the bouquet because my mom was fighting breast cancer. I am happy to report she won the battle! She has her last reconstructive surgery next month. My parents have shown us what a marriage is through the good times and the bad. Just a couple of months before my wedding my dad had to give my mom a showers and wash her hair because she couldn't do it. He would put the conditioner in first then the shampoo but atleast he did it. Everyday he would get up and change her dressings and drain her tubes. He went to every doctor appointment with her and read every book he could find on Breast Cancer. The love that they showed each other through that difficult time was undiscribable. I am crying as I type this. They are just wonderful soulmates and role models for my brothers and my DH & I. Many of our guest said they could really feel the love in that room that night and it wasn't just about my DH & I ... it was the love of our family. And that is exactly what I wanted for our wedding. We didn't want it just about us.
I think that moment was one of my favorite moments of the wedding. I have attached some photos because I think sometime photos can say more then words.
