I wasn't going to write this but more people keep telling me they wished they had done something like that for their parents at their wedding. So I decided to share it because it might give someone ideas.

My parents 39 year anniversary was the day after our wedding and at their wedding they never had a first dance. So we surprised them with their first dance after 39 years of marriage. The song we chose was one that my my dad quotes passages from when he send roses to her. My husband made the speech because I said I would choke up and wouldn't be able to finish. So he said he would make it and by the end of the speech about my parents he started to cry. It was so touching to see how much he loves my parents. When their dance was over I presented my mom with a bouquet that was just like the bouquet she had at her own wedding 39 years ago. Disney did a wonderful job and they even tied a pink ribbon in the bouquet because my mom was fighting breast cancer. I am happy to report she won the battle! She has her last reconstructive surgery next month. My parents have shown us what a marriage is through the good times and the bad. Just a couple of months before my wedding my dad had to give my mom a showers and wash her hair because she couldn't do it. He would put the conditioner in first then the shampoo but atleast he did it. Everyday he would get up and change her dressings and drain her tubes. He went to every doctor appointment with her and read every book he could find on Breast Cancer. The love that they showed each other through that difficult time was undiscribable. I am crying as I type this. They are just wonderful soulmates and role models for my brothers and my DH & I. Many of our guest said they could really feel the love in that room that night and it wasn't just about my DH & I ... it was the love of our family. And that is exactly what I wanted for our wedding. We didn't want it just about us.

I think that moment was one of my favorite moments of the wedding. I have attached some photos because I think sometime photos can say more then words.

Oh, that is just wonderful! You are so thoughtful!!

As someone who already has a daughter, I have to say that what I want most for her in life is someone who will love her as much as DF loves me. I want her to have a wonderful, passionate, supportive love with her very best friend in the world. DF and I have been together for 11 years, he has known us since dd was 11 months old. He is the only father than she has ever really known, and he adopted her last year. I want her to realize that true love is out there for everyone, and that it can stand the test of anything that the world throws at it!

I think you parents have been a wonderful role model for you!

Tammy that is so sweet! That's going to be a moment that everyone in that room will remember forever. I cannot believe you even replicated your mom's bouquet! I am so glad to hear you mom won her battle

That's very sweet! Thank you for sharing that with us. :cutie:

We honored our parents in a different way. My father, and my husband's mother, father and brother have all passed away. So...we had flowers placed in the seats where they would have been in the church, and the minister started off the ceremony by recognizing their absence with a moment of silence. They were heavy in our thoughts during our wedding day.

That is one of the sweetest things I have heard and seen! Wow, that was an amazing thing you and your DH did for your parents!! Thank you for sharing! :)

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this truly touching moment! :)

That is so sweet!! I was tearing up just reading it and what a testament to your mother that she has raised such a loving and thoughtful daughter. Congrats that your mom has won the battle. Cherish every second you can with her. Life is way too short and unpredicatable.

That is so true. I have lost 3 aunts to cancer within just 2 years, so I do cherish every second I have with my parents. You don't know what tomorrow holds. Thanks again to everyone who has replied.

Maggimus.... I am so happy that it made you want to give your parents a hug. I can never leave them without giving them a hug. We are a huggy family.

Maybe I'm just hormonal  but I'm crying like a baby right now...This is the sweetest thing I have ever heard of...I love your pics....Thanks for posting, it makes you realize what's important in life...remembering great things:flower3:

That made me cry. How beautiful and so so thoughtful.
I wish I had done the same thing now for my parents.
They too have a marriage made in heaven, have been married 45 years and are the bestest of friends.
My Mum also is a recovering cancer patient. She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2004. She is doing great, and it was just the best thing to have them at my Disney wedding (we live in the UK).

There is so much love in your story, well done!!

Isn't the American Adventure a beautiful wedding location?
We held our reception upstairs in the AA parlor. It was stunning. A fantastic place because you get to have the fireworks at your wedding too!!

That is so beautiful. I was all teary too. The obviously sensitive, thoughtful caring woman you have become is a beautiful tribute to your parents/families love too.

On my in-laws 50th. I wrote them a letter telling them how much I appreciate their marriage. How they showed me what a lifetime marriage is like. (my folks were divorced months after I got married.). I am so so happy I did. FIL now has dimentia adn MIL is struggling trying to keep him home with her. Some of their own children don't realize how lucky they are to have parents that love each other so much. It's all about them. I agree life is too short.
