My hubby needs to go to Hong Kong next month and I am thinking of tagging along and trying to go to the park. Has anyone ever been? Are there any reviews on it? I've never been to China at all so am wondering... Don't know where we are staying yet, but will have the info in a couple days, just decided the dates today and hopefully fligths tomorrow : )

Some basic info to supplement that excellent trip report in the previous post:

Hong Kong Disneyland is on the same island as the new Hong Kong international airport, about half an hour west of Kowloon (the center of the city). Getting there is easy. The way is signposted with Mickey profiles, and you can also take the subway, and then transfer onto the Disney monorail. A third option is to arrive by ferry - this will take you to the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, which is only a ten minute walk from the main gate to the park.

The park consists basically of a small Magic Kingdom. Apparently the idea was to start with the basics, and then gradually expand it (adding more rides and attractions to the Magic Kingdom layout, and also adding another park or two; there is certainly enough space).

At my guess 90 % of the guests are Chinese, 5 % are from elsewhere in Asia, and 5 % from beyond (the US, Europe and so on). English-speaking people shouldn't have any problems, though, since there are lots of signs in English, and all the CMs must be able to speak English. In addition, if you get on a ride where there is commentary, you will find that there are separate lines for Chinese-speaking and English speaking guests.

One of the nicest things about the park is the food. There are several restaurants, and it seems that each of them serve a different type of Chinese cuisine. What a wonderful way to get to know the food from this part of the world! (Not to worry, however, if you for some reason don't like Chinese: all the restaurants also have "Western" food on their menu.)

And finally - if this is your first time in Hong Kong, you are in for a treat. There is just so much to see in addition to Hong Kong Disneyland!

i prefer hong kong disney, over hong kong phooey.

Wow, thank you. Anyone use public transport? Not sure where I am staying yet, but don't have an idea of how far this is from the main part of Hong Kong.

Public transport is superb, the buses, the trams, the ferries and the subway trains. When you know where you are staying, on the island or Kowloon side, you can start to plan. There is tons to see and do but my favourite is just taking the Star Ferry from Central or Wanchai across to Tsim Sha Tsui.

I can't resist adding my favorite story about my second visit to Hong Kong Disneyland, which was three months after it opened. (My first was three months before it opened, but that's another story.)

All the CMs have to learn English. Apparently some of them working in maintenance don't quite have the hang of it yet, or else they are still attending English 101.

DW and I were staying at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, and I went out for my usual (very) early jog. I was running across the parking lot, when I heard this loud "Hey!" behind me. I looked over my shoulder, and there were two CMs about twenty yards away, apparently reporting for work. I wondered if I was doing something I shouldn't - would it be illegal to run across an absolutely empty parking lot, for example? - but figured nothing was wrong, and started running again. Another loud "Hey!" from the same fella. This time I turned around and started walking towards them with a somewhat mystified expression on my face. That, in turn, surprised the caller - until the CM next to him leaned over and whispered in his ear. With a big grin, he turned back to me and said very loudly, "Hi!" I answered with a "Hi!" of my own, a wave, and we both happily went on with our day.

What a difference a vowel can make!
