I just read this exciting update from a Hong Kong newspaper..... (my translation below)

Hong Kong Disney park is scheduled to open 2006, but plan to hire about 5000 staff 2 years from now, which should help HK economy a lot. There will be 2 hotels build. The deluxe one will be Victorian style, with white grand staircase, spa, upscale restaurants. Weddings with Mickey can be host in this hotel. Already 3 couples had reserved (!). The budget hotel is Hollywood movie themed. Both hotels have either ocean view or Disney park view (quote "no bad view at all"). Guests who visit the park will have a total immerse of Disney theme and services. Disney people in HK promise a transformation of Mickey experience there.

I cannot wait!!! See, sometimes wish do come true. I used to wish upon a star that they'll bring Disney to my hometown. (Except that I now live in NYC.... maybe I should wish again. )

:)

That sounds so cool! I can't wait to see pictures of this when it is done!

I wish I could be excited, but building a Disney park in a communist country leaves a sour taste in my mouth. :(

Jeff in BigD,
Actually Hong Kong is not considered communist. It's part of China, but it's "one country, 2 systems". So, Hong Kong has its own governor and has its own rules / laws / rights...etc. Most of the laws are still very "British" influenced.

However, Disney is also considering opening another park in Shanghai. That's a different story.

I think this is exciting. Doubt I'll get to visit but I think it's neat.
