My son is getting married in June and we are looking for a honeymoon vacation for them. (no not disney, we will be going there in Sept). Anyway, they are both under 25 and I am not sure if they can rent a car. Also looking for a trip that does not require a passport. I thought maybe a resort that would pick them up at the airport and all activities and dining would be on location. They like outdoor things and she would like a hot tub. Any ideas? I would love to send them to Kauai or St. Johns, but I am sure they would need a car.

Thank you for any ideas!

How nice of you! :) Have you considered Sandals or a similar resort? They are usually for couples and have tropical locations with a lot of activities and they are all inclusive. Our AAA travel agent told us about them once. Just a thought. Hope it works out. :)

It requires passport but we had a great time at Sandals Dunns River Falls:) All inclusive is the way to go!

What about a cruise? Those don't require passports since, I don't think, and definitely have a hot tub. Food and activities on the ship are included, but excursions would cost more. We did a cruise for part of our honeymoon and loved :lovestruc it!

U.S. citizens need a passport now for cruises that stop at ports in South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and Antarctica. Additionally, U.S. citizens who travel by air to the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico and Bermuda to catch their ship must have a passport.
However, if you are cruising to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Mexico, and Canada from a U.S. port you do not need a passport – this is deemed a “closed loop” voyage. A “closed loop” voyage or itinerary occurs when a vessel departs from a U.S. port or place and returns to the same U.S. port upon completion of the voyage. Per the WHTI Land and Sea Final Rule, travelers on “closed loop” voyages are not subject to the same documentary requirements for entry to the United States as other travelers.

you don't need a passport to go to puerto rico, and i wouldn't recommend renting a car their either. you can take a cab to your hotel and pretty much get around any place you want to via either cab or walking (depending on where you are staying).

Try Key West. It's in the US, so no passport, it's tropical, small enough they can walk most everywhere or rent a scooter (don't need to be 25) and there should be enough to do to entertain them.

They can probably rent a car as long as they are over 21. You have to pay an additional $25/day at most places, and you have to carry your own collision and comprehensive coverage that transfers to rental cars (I don't remember why, but I do remember most of the companies asked this... I know this also negates you from having to purchase their insurance coverage).

I just turned 25 but have rental several cars when 22, 23, 24!

We honeymooned at the Westin on St. John eight years ago and it was great. Both the Westin and Caneel Bay have a service where they pick you up at the airport (in St. Thomas) and take you to St. John via private boat vs. the public ferry.

I would suggest they have passports (very easy to obtain) because if they want to go out on a snorking trip, the USVI are in very close proximity to the BVI and they will need to go thru customs if they want to snorkel in those waters.

A cruise or all-inclusive might be the way to go. DH & I ate one meal at the Westin (and it was over-priced and not very good) and all others elsewhere on the island.

I love this idea. We are vacation owners at the Westin on st John and go every year. There are a lot of trails to hike with amazing views. The snorkeling tirps are amazing. You can also snorkel around the USVI only if you do not have a passport. My husband and I just renewed our vows there this past year. It is very romantic. They have taxi service at the Westin. They are always there waiting to help and to take you somewhere.

I was thinking this would be a great place. Is the Westin nice?

Thank you everyone!

We had to book a car for a trip to Houston back in October, and we were both under 25 (still are). We booked through Hertz ON THE PHONE, and they did not ask for a DOB. They do ask for the DOB on the website. When we got to the check in counter we checked in at a kiosk instead of an actual person, and was never noted as being under 25.

Good luck, no matter which way you decide to go :)

Kauai definitely needs a car (which you don't need to be 25 to rent). Kauai and the big island are fairly boring with almost no night life. A combination of Maui and Oahu was how we spent our honeymoon and it was amazing. Kauai is certainly a great time but might be a bit too slow paced for some. Oahu doesn't need a car if you stay at Waikiki and don't plan to stray too far. Hawaii has a great bus system, but it is a major city and might be a bit too much like the mainland to spend your entire honeymoon there.

We have been staying in the Bay Vista Villas and they are brand new and very nice. The Staff at the Westin are wonderful and so friendly. Of course, I think everyone on the Island is very friendly. I am sure you can look it up on the net to see pictures.

I am not sure if any of the regular rooms are refurbished or not. We stayed in on the last night of our stay this past year and it was in need of a fix up.

Caneel Bay is supposed to be very romantic however last I heard the do not have phones or TV. I am not sure if the have air conditioning or not. It is said to be very romantic and a way to truly get away from it all. I also believe they have a lot more options as far as restaurants go. They also have nicer beaches and more all but two are private.
