Okay,
We are honeymooning at the Wilderness Lodge the first part of February. I have a wooded view regular room reserved and I want to change it to the Honemoon Suite or just a regular conceirge room but I have heard some people say that in value saeson, which is the time we are going, and if the hotel is not booked up that they give you free upgrades. Has anyone ever heard of this happening or am I just making up stuff.
I really hate to spend the extra money if there is a chance(I just need the thought of that chance) the we COULD be upgraded.
Also should we have the ears before we check in so they can see we are on our honeymoon or should we just tell them??
Thanks for any info that you can give!!!

If you really want the upgrade, pay for it. I wouldn't chance it hoping for a free one if it's that important to you. Plus I've never heard of someone being bumped from a woods to conceirge for free and I would say there's NO chance for a suite upgrade for free. When they give free upgrades it's usually to the level of room above the one you have reserved. For example, you have a woods view, if you were to receive a free upgrade it would be to a coutryard view.

If you have your heart set on a suite, concerige or even courtyard view, change you ressies now.

Have a great trip!

I would have to agree that you stand little to no chance of this type of upgrade for free.

If you want the Honeymoon suite you are going to need to reserve it and pay for it - sorry!

On our honeymoon back in '94, we paid for garden view CB. We requested a king sized bed. I don't know if they were charging extra for kingsized beds back then or not. We recieved a corner, kingsize room and were not charged extra for it. A small basket of fruit with a sweet note was waiting on our table, nice touch. Just around the corner from us was the parking lot, you couldn't get further from the water if you tried. The upside of this was the close walk to the buses. This was all before I had any knowledge of specials or codes so we had paid rack. My sister honeymooned at POR 1 1/2 yrs. later and did not get her request of king size bed. They pushed the two beds together everynight because housekeeping would "fix" everything back just so each day  , I don't think they understood her notes she would leave :p

Best wishes on you honeymoon. Perhaps spring for a honeymoon suite for the first night or two of your vacation, or the last night or two. I think they would make a big fuss if they could but have soo many honeymooners every year, just a thought.

Just thought I'd give you our experience ---

We Honeymooned in Disney in Sept. of 97' (before becoming DVC members so our entire 2 wks was paid in cash).

We stayed the first 2 nights at the Grand Floridian and had only paid for a standard room - we had let them know when we made the ressie that we were honeymooning. When we checked in, they congratulated us on our wedding and gave us an upgrade to a suite!! We were so surprised! It was wonderful! They also had champagne with a rose waiting for us when we got to the suite. This was during the 25th anniversary celebration so even though it was considered value season in Sept. it was alot busier than usual. After the 2 nights at the GF we switched over to Dixie Landings and stayed there for a week (no upgrade but were given water view and had a nice room)and then the last 3 nights we had gone down to Disney's Vero beach resort on the ocean. No upgrade there either but...again champagne waiting in the room and this time with a chocholate Mikey Mouse and chocholate covered strawberries that looked like tuxedo's and even though we didn't get a room upgrade we had a very nice ocean view.

The only way to guarentee that you'll get an upgrade of course is to pay for it ahead of time, but if you really don't want to spend the money, you may get surprised with one - you never know. If nothing else, they will probably send champagne which was also a nice surprise. Maybe they gave us the upgrade since our stay at the GF was only for 2 nights and not the whole week? I don't know - I wasn't going to ask - lol. But Disney really went out of their way to make it special for us. I would definetly make sure they are aware you are on your honeymoon though on your resservation. Personnally, we would have been happy with the room we had booked at the grand (we were thrilled just to get to stay there at all) and having them upgrade us made getting to stay in the suite so much more special.

Best of luck with your decision and congrats on your upcoming wedding!!

I will chime in here. My wife and I honeymooned at YC in November of 98, and specified that we were going down on our honeymoon.

Not only didn't we get an upgrade, but there was nothing in the room either when we arrived. Don't get me wrong, we thoroughly enjoyed the entire honeymoon. I was merely trying to point out to you not to expect an upgrade even if you tell them you're honeymoon. Especially now, since it seems as though quite a few CMs don't have the Disney "spirit" like they used to.

One piece of advice though. Make certain that everywhere you have a chance to mention to a CM that it is your honeymoon, do so. Especially at the restaurants. Never know when a freebie will come your way. We received free dessert at ESPN Club, and free champagne at Yachtsman Steakhouse just to name a couple.

Congratulations on your nuptials and enjoy your honeymoon!!

We honeymooned at WL in 96 and stayed in one of the Honeymoon Suites which we had reserved. We did receive a nice card and bottle of champagne compliments of the lodge.

I do think you might have a chance to get upgraded to a courtyard view, but I wouldn't count on getting one of the honeymoon suites as there are only four of them and they are hard to get sometimes.
