First day (1/6/2003) of honeymoon trip “home” to VWL

Who:
Myself and my DW

The plan:
DTD Marketplace and Westside in the morning
AK afternoon
Boma for dinner

Actual:
We were more tired after dinner than expected last night and just unpacked after we checked in, so we did not do any grocery shopping. Because of this we decided to get some groceries instead of going to DTD this morning. I woke up around 7am and watched some TV, and then DW got up around 8am and got ready. I got ready afterwards. We went offsite to Super Wal-Mart and picked up some things; afterwards we had lunch at Fazoli’s for some quick pasta. We went back to VWL and took our things up to the room. We then took the bus over to AK, only had about a five minute wait for the bus at WL. We strolled through Discover Island and had our picture taken by the CMs at the photo spot with the tree in the background. We also encountered Lilo and Stitch, and so we got in line to give them a hug and take pictures with them. We walked over to the Kilimanjaro Safaris and walked right on. After that we took the Wildlife Express train ride to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. We walked through the Conversation Station, and took pictures of two hidden mickeys in the mural on the wall at the front entrance. We visited Affection Station and then headed back to the train to take us back. We did some shopping and then headed over to Camp Mickey and Minnie to wait for the Festival of the Lion King show. We had some ice cream and as eating it we noticed a hidden mickey on one of the shutters on the ice cream stand. We went in for the show when the doors opened. It is a really good show, both myself and my DW enjoyed it. DW thought that it was very well choreographed, and performed. The performers really did a great job. We took the AKL bus from AK with a just a few minutes wait. On the way from the bus stop we visited the Zawandi Marketplace. I picked up a license plate frame that says “Walt Disney World” on the top, and “been there, done that, going back” on the bottom. We browsed around the resort viewing some animals from the “Arusha Rock Kopje Overlook” and then went and checked in early for our PS at Boma. We got seated after a short wait. We got our first plates of food and then realized the nice romantic table behind some posts was too dark to really see what we were eating. We asked to be moved, and our waitress cleaned up a table a party just left from, and moved us to it. This table was a lot better. DW and I both really enjoyed the roasted butternut squash, and the sweet potato and white potato mash. DW also liked the tomato stew from the first station, but didn’t really enjoy the corn and plantain soup. She loved the zebra dome! We both really enjoyed just about everything we ate here; we will be back here sometime in the future. After dinner, we headed down to DTD to get a bus back to VWL. The bus for DTD was there as we came to the bus stops at AKL so we got right on and headed down. We transferred at Marketplace bus stop and had a short wait for the VWL bus. We came back to the room and then grabbed our mugs and went down to Roaring Forks and filled them and heading out to the boat docks to watch and video tape the Electrical Water Pageant. After that we made it back to the room and went to bed.

Great first full day! It seems like you were able to do alot, but still have a fairly relaxing day. Glad you liked Boma - I don't usually go for buffets, but find Boma to be the exception!

Sounds like you made the most of your time at AK.

Boma has some really interesting and good food, I like to eat there.

Thanks for taking the time to post this, I enjoyed reading.
