Has anyone use a Honeymoon registry online, which sites? If so would you recommend them?

I did an extensive review/comparison of 10 honeymoon registry sites. The one that I chose is thebigday.com.

I was able to verify their security, and the fees weren't too bad. The fees are also not seen by the gift givers, which was important to me. PM me with your email address if you'd like me to send you my analysis.

HTH.

Did or are you planning on booking your vacation on thebigday.com? I saw that if you don't there is a 9% service charge.

We really aren't sure yet whether we'll use the site to book our travel. We wanted to have the choice of booking with the site, without being forced to book with them. The site seems to have decent deals for where we want to go (Hawaii), and they have great customer support to come up with unique packages. In the past we've been "do-it-ourselfers" when it comes to planning our vacations, but Hawaii has so much to it that we will probably need some help.

When we picked a site, our first priority was to verify the security. Finding a site without fees but with verified secure transactions proved to be elusive. So we figured that if there was going to have to be fees, we wanted everyone to feel comfortable with the site. We also wanted everyone to be able to call in case they weren't comfortable with web transactions.

Beyond security and resonable fees, we looked for a site that we could personalize to reflect our tastes, etc. You can upload your own photos, write your own descriptions for the different components...and even add password protection to your registry so that only your guests can view it (we wanted as much privacy as possible).

Anyways, now I'm rambling...but I hope the info helps you make your decision.

Jusy to add a note, a lot of people find honeymoon registries "tacky". They think that it's tantemount to overtly asking your guests for money. I think in some cases that might be true, but you have to know your guests. My fiance and I have been living together for 6 years (together for 7 1/2 years), and we really don't need the regular registry stuff. I didn't want to register at all (because we are sort of forcing all our guests to spend a ton of money to come to Florida), but my mother insisted. So this was my alternative. Our friends and families are incredibly receptive to the idea of participating in planning our honeymoon trip, so we decided to go for it. Whoever decides they want to buy something (ie-a dinner out or a tour of something) will get a picture of us at that particular experience on our honeymoon in their thank you cards.

I'm basically saying that you should be prepared to face the wrath of the "traditionalists" if you decide to do the honeymoon registry.

And only tell people about it through word of mouth, no matter what! :)

Thanks for the advise. I too have been living with my fiance for 5 years so we don't need alot as far as a gift registry. I thought it would be a good alternative to people just giving money as a gift or buying us things that we do not needed. I don't expect my guest to give us gifts since they will be spending money to go to FLorida but I will be having home reception back in NJ for those who couln't make it so the registry would be helpful to them as well.

Sounds like we have very similar circumstances surrounding the wedding! What is it with the mid-atlantic states that we all want to have our weddings in Florida? :teeth:

I think because the price of weddings especially in NJ would end up being more money than if you had it in Disney. I am from Cape May, NJ, the cost of just the reception would be the same if not more of the whole price of a Disney wedding because everyone I invite would show up.

Just to add a website incase you are still looking for one: ww.starwoodhoneymoons.com :) Good Luck!
