We are getting married in February and are starting to look for a honeymoon spot....I want either a tropical island or Europe (Italy specifically)....

So what are your ideas?

Congratulations on the upcoming wedding.

February is the perfect time weather wise for the Maldives.
I would rule out the pacific (Fiji, Tahiti etc.) as it is the wet cyclone season in feb.
Personally I love Italy in the winter and Venice is gorgeous when cold and foggy although the flooding at that time of can make things 'interesting'. Sightseeing in Rome is great during the winter as the temps are mild and the crowds are very much reduced compared to the summer.

Good Luck finding the right spot for you honeymoon.

We went to an AI in Barbados. I was wonderful. But then again we didn't pay for it. The inlaws did.

Since I am not one to lay on the beach, I'd go to Italy where there is stuff to see and do, and still plently of "romance"...think having an nice glass of wine in a little sidewalk cafe, or, in Venice, the gondoliers will serenade you...things like that.

If you want a couple of beach days, go to the southern Italian coast.

Costa Rica, you can do all kinds of active stuff and lay on the beach if you'd like. There is an active volcano that is spectacular to see (Arenal) , canopy tours of the rainforest, and beautiful beaches!

I wanted Italy- but am so glad dh talked me into Tahiti instead. You have no idea how very exhausted you will be right after the wedding. It's an emotional time and it wiped us out.
Lying on the beach isn't our normal type of trip- but for the honeymoon it was perfect. Sight seeing wasn't what we were there for anyway:banana:

Along those lines, my then fiancee and I took a Marriage class together in college. The professor was a big opponent of "trip of a lifetime" honeymoons. He said "Remember the purpose of a 'Honeymoon'... it's to have time alone to get used to the notion that you are now a married couple." As a counter example, he used the son of the wealth friend who immediately took this new wife off to Africa for a long highly-planned safari. He said "Why start things off by exhausting yourselves???"

We took his advice... instead of Europe or Disney or anything that involved a lot of work to get there, we drove several hours from the church to a nice state park in the Red River Gorge of Kentucky and stayed in a beautiful lodge overlooking the valley below. It was very relaxing and we also spent some time hiking around the park to see the natural features of the area.

I would not do Italy until at least April. If you do not want the massive jet lag of Hawaii or Tahiti I would suggest a cruise of the Southern Caribbean. On a cruise you can do everything or nothing and do not have to worry about food.

We did a Med. Cruise for our honeymoon two years ago. Our itinerary was a round trip from Rome so we flew in a few days early to spend some significant time in Rome.

We also went 5 weeks after our wedding so we could actually enjoy some of the first few days of our trip!!!

Congrats!

We went to Hawaii for ours. It was perfect for us. Lying on the beach or by the pool was just what we needed after all the chaos of planning a wedding. We did do some sightseeing but it was a laid back kind of vacation compared to most of our trips. :goodvibes
