We are getting married in Sept and have a 5 day Disney "family moon" cruise booked in Oct with the kids, his mom, and sister out of Miami. The original plan was after the cruise, the kids, his mom, and sister were going to fly home, and we were going to get a rental car to head to WDW. We have a DVC reservation at the Poly and were going to go to the Food & Wine. However, we just returned from a WDW trip, and it was less than magical. We both came home not really wanting to go back for our honeymoon and deal with everything. So our other options are do a b2b on the Magic and do another 5 day just us or get a rental car, drive up to Port Canaveral, and the next day do a 7 day on the Fantasy just the two of us.

We have done two 3 day and one 4 day and been on all the ships but the Fantasy. The 5 day family moon goes to Cozumel and Castaway Cay. The second 5 day goes to Grand Cayman and Castaway Cay where as the 7 day is an Eastern. The Eastern doesn't interest us as much as the Western, but we have never been on the Fantasy and it gives us two more cruise days and one night at the beach between cruises. The price difference between transportation, the cruise, and extras is about $1600. Is this really worth it? I get excited about it, but then think that's $266 per person, per extra night......

If I'm understanding the options correctly:
  • B2B on the Magic, with first leg including the family and second leg just you and DH
  • 7-night on the Fantasy with the family
I vote for the B2B and some time alone as a couple.

Best wishes and enjoy your cruise(s)!

I reread what I wrote and it is confusing. We will do the first 5 day with the family and then they are going home no matter what we do. The second 5 day or the 7 would just be the two of us.

Ah, ok. Sorry I misunderstood. The 7-night would be great, but as you mention it will involve rental car and driving. I think I'd still opt for the B2B on the Magic for the ease and convenience. You might even get the same stateroom -- or go for an upgrade since it'll be just the 2 of you.

Enjoy!

I would do the b2b and put that 1600 towards the Fantasy the following year. You could book the Fantasy for next Fall onboard and that would save you some additional money. I'm probably in the minority, but I prefer the Western ports. The Fantasy goes to Tortola in 2016 so that would be something new. Congrats on your wedding.

Thanks! We have a 7 day on NCL next year as we got a great price on it plus the unlimited beverage plan and the kids sail free. We will still probably put a placeholder for 2017, you know....just in case :D

Yes definitely the place holder. I think it's only 200.00 now with the new change. You just never know:rolleyes1

I vote for the 7 night Eastern. It was our second cruise and we loved it so much. The longer the cruise the better IMHO because you can do much more and more importantly you feel like you get more relaxation in. And snuggling on the pod chairs never goes out of style! Congrats on your upcoming wedding.

I didn't post yesterday because I haven't been on the Magic yet so I didn't feel right about it. But after reading this:

It reminded me of how much I love Satellite Falls on the Fantasy and how amazing that would be to enjoy it with my wife for a full week without the kids. So with that in mind I would absolutely, without a doubt do the Fantasy. Either way enjoy both cruises and congrats on your wedding, I wish you a lifetime of joy and happiness.

I would do the eastern, but I'm biased because we did the 7-Night Eastern as our honeymoon :D That being said I can appreciate the cost savings by staying in Miami. From our perspective though - we had our wedding at WDW and spent the following 5 days with our family at the parks before getting on the Fantasy. We really appreciated the change of scenery and it helped to kind of re-energize us for the "two of us" part of the honeymoon.

The Eastern also has more sea days, and we loooooooved the sea days, especially being honeymooners. Either way, I hope you have the most wonderful time!

Thanks for all the replies! We are leaning more towards the 7 night as we have never been on the Fantasy and all the ports (except Castaway Cay) would be new. He is a bit worried about getting "bored" on sea days though....what all do you do? All of the ones we have been on have been short, so there were lots to try and get done each day. We are looking at getting rainforest room passes for two days (we aren't huge spa people, but the heated loungers and hot tub look interesting), see a movie or two, and hang out by the pool. Does anyone get bored on sea days?

We love sea days! Favorite things to do are; satellite falls, trivia and other games, rainforest room, towel folding class, cooking demos (Apple streusel is cool), bingo, etc. there are so many things to do on sea days, we've never not had anything to do on board.

Just got off the 7 night eastern. I highly recommend it!!! You won't be bored at all. The ports were great! The ship is amazing! There is so much to do. The rainforest room was so relaxing. Treat yourself to that. See some movies and you will wonder where your time went. Happy Wedding and cruising!

On sea days we:

  • Got up early and enjoyed a deserted adult pool (our bodies were still on work time!)
  • Took Mixology and Champagne seminars, as well as lots of trivia & cooking seminars
  • Visited the clubs on open houses
  • Played Midship Detective
  • Ordered room service and blew threw about 6 movies on demand in our cabin, plus enjoying our carry-on alcohol on our verandah
  • Palo brunch!
We didn't even get to do everything we wanted to do (such as the Art of the Theme Show tour), and we did absolutely no character meet & greets, so there's even more options if you have different tastes than us. We also tried the Rainforest Room (when we got back early from our St Maarten day) and we aren't spa people, but we enjoyed it - I recommend pre-ordering the one day pass just because it's cheap and worth a try. This was our first cruise ever and DH loved the sea days so much he wants our next one to be a transatlantic!

I forgot all about the movies on demand!!!! We loved that on the Dream! Well it sounds like we will find plenty to do. I have faith that we will be fine, but he was just unsure. We are excited and can't wait to see a new ship, new ports, and all that goes with it!

On sea days we lounged on the deck, took animation classes, do mixology, deliver FE gifts, ship tours, Palo brunch, take in talent shows, lounge, eat food, lounge, nap, eat more food, play trivia, go to a DVC presentation (your chance to win OBC!) play minigolf, lounge, eat again, read.

Sure you aren't ziplining and visiting a cultural center, but there can be plenty to do depending on what you like. If you need to be thrilled you might be disappointed, but if you can find pleasure in more simple things you may be enchanted.

Oh- and we vote for the 7 day Eastern. The adult areas on the Fantasy are amazing :goodvibes
