Honest Opinions Needed

Chef Mickey's breakfast, yes. Chef Mickey's dinner, no.

'Ohana is exactly opposite. Dinner, yes. Breakfast, no.

NOTE1: As with most character meals, you are paying for the characters, and possibly atmosphere, but not the food.

NOTE2Food is ample, but quality only average or even slightly below. Unfortunately, we believe the food quality has gone down hill significantly. During this visit, characters really breezed through, and did not spend a lot of time with the children. Even with our opinion that CM has gone downhill, this meal took the bar even below our dreams. We saw one person refer to it as "Chef Icky's".

NOTE1: Used to be highly rated. However, the food has deteriorated over the past 2-3 years, and it is tough to hurt eggs. Additionally, the service can be spotty. For food quality and service, select another restaurant. The kids will have fun at the eatery, certainly. But, it barely makes our list of favored eateries. It is too loud, too lax in service, too low in food quality. That's too bad. Ohana's character breakfast has Lilo/Stitch, Mickey/Pluto, and a photo-op for Mickey and Pluto. It's about $25 per adult and about $15 per child, so not unreasonable at WDW for scrambled eggs, potatoes, pastries, sausage links, bacon, waffles, and fruit. All-in-all, not a bad deal or choice.

NOTE2: As with other character meals, there are no Photopass folks inside the eatery, so you need your own camera.

We have done Chef Mickey's several times and have skipped it the last two trips. It's fine but not a favorite.

We have done Ohana both breakfast and dinner several times (last trip we did both). It's probably my favorite.... breakfast for characters and dinner for the food.

I just tried Chef Mickey's for breakfast on 9/30, it was my first time there since 1984. I only went because we got a last minute reservation and my sister wanted to go (her kids had never been). I had seen a lot of negative reviews so I was not looking forward to it. It was really good though. It has your standard breakfast fare, however it was fresh and the place was clean. Character interaction was good. Our waitress was great, she brought juice and coffee right away and then got soda's for some of us. She was on top of dirty plates and checking if we needed anything. I would definitely go back for breakfast.

We also visited 'Ohana for dinner on 9/23. Last year (Sept 2015) we visited for both breakfast and dinner. Dinner is one of our favorites because of the pot stickers and bread pudding dessert. I have always had good service there. I prefer dinner over breakfast. Breakfast was good though, it was just a little hectic when all the characters came around.

You did not discuss your family dynamics, but if you have kids, I'd say CM for an arrival night is a good decision. WE generally plan it when we have youngsters and they love it. I know folks do not, but I have had multiple dinners and one breakfast and enjoyed it every time. The food was always fresh, the buffet clean and the service good. Our character interaction is always excellent. I cannto say the food was always hot, but I think it was my fault. I had two little girls in tow, they wanted to eat, but HOLY LONG TIME DECIDING!!!!!! They were really distracted but the characters so my food got cold. How it started I cannot say.

As to 'Ohana, it is not my favorite meal, and our last visit was horrific. I am willing to give it a pass, every place can have a bad night. It is a family favorite for everyone else but me. I have never understood the draw, but I like CM, so what do I know? LOL!

Chef Mickey's is the only restaurant I have told myself (several times) I will never go to again. It was a crazy, chaotic, mess, and the food was bad, even for Disney buffet standards. We were seated over an hour past our ADR time (for a breakfast ADR with 3 kids 5 and under, that was not a good way to start the experience). I remember, more than once, seeing little ones takes food off the buffet with their hands, and then putting it back. Put a bad taste in my mouth. The only way I will ever go back is if my DNephew (who just turned 1) ever goes. It would be fun to see his face light up meeting the characters.
My DD13 and I tried 'Ohana breakfast last summer for the first time. The food was good, but the character interaction left a lot to be desired. The main reason we went was because Stitch is my DD's all time favorite Disney character and since my DH wasn't coming with (boring eater), I thought good time to try it. Stitch was the only character who spent more than 30 seconds at our table. He was great, but the other characters had no personality whatsoever. They basically stopped, faced the camera, and were gone. The food was delicious. We loved the breads, and I loved everything that was served. But it definitely wasn't worth character meal pricing. We might go back on a girls only trip, but it's not high on my list, either.

Chef Mickey's is a staple for our trips, but only because the kids love the atmosphere. As others have said, the food is "eh."

We've only done O'hana's for dinner, but honestly it's one of my favorite meals at Disney. There are no characters but there are activities for the the kids to participate in, and I love the laid back vibe of the place. Plus, the food is really well made, the butter, oh the butter.....so good!

No to Chef Mickey's. We ate dinner there and it wasn't a good experience. The food was not okay and the characters were rushed, some skipped our table. (My husband did tell a waitress and they came back to our table so we did appreciate that!) We have had better food and fun, relaxed character experiences at other restaurants. (breakfast at Cape May Cafe and Tusker House plus Park Fare, H&V, Akershus, CRT) Our family loves breakfast so that probably makes a big difference but we still will not give CM another try.

Ohana - haven't been there yet but we have a reservation for our next trip to try dinner.

I like Chef Mickey's for breakfast. I thought the food was great, and they have my favorite characters. That being said I don't feel a need to go back again soon. Ohana is one of our favorites for dinner, and I'm sure we'll be back.

I've been to both and would return to neither.

Chef Mickey's is fun for children and if you are looking for a party-type atmosphere...but last year when we were there for dinner, we weren't impressed and said we wouldn't go back.

Ohana has a few games for children and the food is WONDERFUL! We always make sure to go to Ohana for dinner and the Crystal Palace for breakfast. We never miss these two!!!
