Honest impressions from 1st stay at Pop Century

We love POP it is just enough space for us , we get 2 joining rooms. The kids really love it here and I like how it really makes me feel like I am in Disney with the theming. I don't even consider this a value place it is not a $36 a night hole in the wall ,that is what I consider a value hotel. POP is Disney !

Is the 50's section a standard room or preferred room?

I think parts are standard, and parts are preferred. We stayed in the 50's, Tramp section, facing a back courtyard with sort of a side-view of the lake. We did not pay for a preferred room.

Great review. It sounds like fun and now I totally look forward to being there next May ......and I love hustle and bustle, I can't sleep in total quiet or else I'll think something is wrong....lol, so that's an added bonus for me.

I'm glad the review has been helpful...I know that I can never get enough details about a resort when I'm considering it, so tried to post about Pop with that in mind. Thanks for the kind comments!

For me, as I said, the whole thing will come down to how the smoking issue is handled.

I also realized that I just don't get the appeal of the Moderates. For me, the big differential between Deluxes and Values is indoor corriors vs. outdoor, motel-style hallways. But, the Mods also have the outdoor hallways. The room size between the Mods and Values seemed minor and both have double beds. Pool slide at POR so-so pool vs. the great slideless pool at Pop?!?! The only difference I experienced was that the grounds at Mods were more elaborately themed and there was more room for just walking around. Okay. But then when I realized the going rate for a Mod was $165 vs. $84 we paid for Pop, I really couldn't imagine justifying the difference.

I think you will LOVE it! If I had to describe Pop in three words, they would be: fun, bright, exhilirating!

I think it comes down to a lot of issues besides the bed size and hallways. Good thing since as you say, the mods are the same set up in those areas that the values are! The mods are generally more quiet, the lush grounds and theming that is not about movie icons (and I am not knocking that, I love the big icons at the values) is something many people gladly pay for. Also, having hottubs and slides, even ones that may not be something you would see at a water park is a big plus for many families. Its also little things like having towels at the pools to use and nicer furnishings in the rooms and double sinks in the bathrooms that also have privacy curtains (although CSR has single sink set up and I think the newer rooms at Music now have the privacy curtains). Also, the mods have some sort of water to enjoy besides the pool. Either the river at the Port Orleans resorts or the lakes at CBR and CSR. You can lie in a hammock at CBR and watch the high up fireworks from Epcot. They also have full service restaurants (except POFQ but its close enough to walk to Boatrights at POR). At CSR, CBR and POR you can rent a surrey bike, fish (POR) or rent boats (CSR and CBR). At Port Orleans, you can take a carriage ride. So there's a lot going on at those resorts. And CSR has a spa, salon and room service. These are all things some people do want to pay for, especially the relaxing, more quiet atmosphere.

Sometimes I feel like paying that extra, others it isn't worth it or necessary and I go with a value. And I never miss one when I am at the other! Its great to have the choices and we all have different thoughts on that. To me, I would never make the jump to a deluxe without feeling a bit of a twinge of the "is this really worth it" but others do and I get that.

Gosh- I'm disappointed to read that the frozen coke/icee machines have been broken so long. That's the ONLY reason I booked Pop during free dining vs. an AS resort as I don't like their food court ( prefer ASMo). My son is in renal failure and on dialysis thus is limited in how much liquid he can consume. The frozen icees are a real treat and something on his extremely limited diet that he can enjoy. Also for children with lactose intolerance, the icees are a treat that they can enjoy when they can't have ice cream. Oh well...I hope the machines are fixed by September.....---Kathy

Thanks so much for the review. With some of the negative reports I have seen, I was getting a little concerned about staying there this September.
We are taking my mom with us and I hate for it to be a bad experience for her. When my parents used to take us we stayed at the Polynesian, but my pocketbook can't afford that!;)
