After having return flights canceled in July and October we are talking about driving instead of flying on future vacations. We test drove a Honda Fit and Jetta TDI this afternoon because if fuel economy and cargo capacity. Two adults, one child who is not quite 3, stroller and two suitcases would be the usual cargo fir the 1,800 mile roundtrip. Any one done this with either car?

I own a Jetta TDI, so I'm a bit partial to it. I drive upwards of 300 miles some days (on an island that's only 100 miles across, wth!), and it's been comfortable, quite economical, and it doesn't drive like an economical car.

Since you're also comparing it to the Fit, might I suggest splitting the difference and go with a 5 door Golf TDI? It's interior room should trump both the Jetta and the Fit, but will have the diesel economy.

We love our Jetta TDI and plan on driving it down to DW in Jan. :thumbsup2

Having niether of these cars but an automotive background I will say this. VW is one of the most pitiful makes of cars sold in the US and Honda is one of the best. VW relies on marketing, Honda relies on engineering.
