What wins out at your house? It's 11 here, I keep getting yelled at to go to bed, but I'm doing homework. Yes, I am Dis'ing, but if I don't do anything on the main window, the internet will kick me off AIM so I won't be able to used SmarterChild for the dictionary.

WYR have your kid in bed, or complete there work? :confused3

I'd be asking you why you were still doing homework at 11:00. Why didn't you finish it earlier in the evening?

I did.. started around 6:30 or 7...

re-read 3 chapters to prepare for the test and look for my vocab words. Now I'm copying the sentaces (which are reeeeaaally long) and the word, then defining the word with the full dictionary deffinition.. it takes forever

You asked. :) I'd rather have homework completed as soon as they get home. That way they will be ready for bedtime. :sunny:

My homework had to be done when I got home from school and I'm the same way with my son. However, when I was your age I was addicted to the David Letterman show, and used to sneak downstairs every night to watch him from 12:30 to 1:30. So as a mom, I'm going to tell you to do your homework earlier! But as a former night owl whose grades didn't suffer for it, I won't come down that hard on you (but go to bed soon and keep those grades up!) :)

I agree, as soon as my kids get home they grab a snack and then hit the homework. No tv, games, outside..... unless it is a really long assignment and then I let them take a short break called dinner... :flower:

Another mean mom here :teeth:

I let the kids have a snack and play for a bit in the afternoons (everyone needs to de-stress after school or work) but then homework has to be done before they can play or watch TV any more. Preferrably before supper.

Also, (horror of horrors) they can't ride (horses) on weekends unless all their homework is done!

We're now getting to this point. I was home from school by 3:30 as a kid. DS isn't home until 6ish when I get home from work. So much to do. He's going to have to start staying up later to get it all done.

OMGosh, I'd die. It would help if they didn't give so much. I have two essays (gym and biology) due tomarow too. Gym is easy, but it still takes about half an hour!

You're in high school right? What year? Senior year, I would let you do whatever you wanted as long as you weren't really suffering from lack of sleep. Junior year, not quite as lenient, would hope that you know what you're doing and the best way possible. I might nag on you to get to bed sooner. Sophomore/Freshman, I would hope you could be in bed by 11 and would encourage you to start your work earlier if possible to get done in time.

I've been there. I remember what it's like. For me, I actually did better late at night. There was something about the pressure of getting it done. I needed that to focus, otherwise my mind would wander. Good luck and I hope you get to bed at a reasonable hour.

Well-in the perfect world I'd like my kids to get their homework done after school-but....I remember that I stayed up late and my grades didn't suffer too much-and now I work night shift(who would of guessed) My Kids get down time after school and start around 7pm-Good Luck with your papers-write fast!!!!!and sleep quick!!!! :teeth:

My suggestion would be to use a traditional dictionary. It would take less time to look words up that when then it would to use any AIM programs and be on DIS. While you might think it doesn't take much time, reading and responding to the various posts/IM's takes a long time. Turn off the computer until you are done and you will get your homework done much faster.

To answer your question, if you had been doing your homework uninterrupted since 6:30 and are still working on it at 11:00, that is enough time, go to bed, but since you have been on the computer and doing what ever else, get your homework done.

Our oldest needs to do his homework right after school or it takes him forever to get it done (I'm tired, why can't I keep playing, whine, whine, whine). If he starts right after school, homework time in minimal. If he starts after dinner, 30 minutes of homework takes 3 hours, inbetween the whining. The twins are much better, they can play after school and then do homework after dinner (they usually do their homework first thing so they don't have to worry about it).

we had the samething come up at our house last night. DS has Drama practice afterschool and then had tutoring so by the time we had dinner it was after 7 and homework went late. I went to bed at 10 and he was still up working on it. He had charts and graphs to do.

Normally I don't like to have 2 things for one night, but it's close to production so they have practice every night and its getting close to test time so he had to go to the tutor.

He is good about getting himself up and ready in the morning so I cut him some slack when its not an everyday thing.

I'd go to bed....in fact that's what I do myself. I tend to find opportunity in one of my other classes or during lunch to finish up homework....but I need my sleep. I have to either do that or go to the library after school (so no distractions)...

Buuuut....I have to disagree with comments about doing homework earlier. I'm a night person, and my brain works better in the evening...so if I do homework at home, I have to do it later (around 8PM or later) in order to focus. Maybe it's similar for you. :)

Lizze, It is very hard to accomplish getting your work done when you are IM'ing and DIS'ing. Tomorrow try to sign off on the internet and see how long it takes to do your homework.

I have two HS'ers. Sometimes they are not able to get to their homework until after dinner, 6:30 or so. They go to a tough HS and take Honors classes. With very few exceptions they are in bed by 11:00. That is 4 1/2 hours. They do not do their homework and IM. Never and they do very well in school.

Managing your time is very important. More than 4 1/2 hours of homework is not managing your time very well.
