I've noticed that a few people on here are homeschooled. I was wondering why you're being homeschooled vs. public/private school. Any particular reason(s)? Your choice or your parents? And if your parents made the decision, why did they choose to homeschool?

I know a number of people who have been homeschooled, but it was matter of geography more than anything else! Tough to get to a formal school when you're living out in the bush.

Thanks!

i was homeschooled in the third grade, because i was starting to fall through the cracks in my math class. i really needed extra help, but i wasn't getting it. i went back to public school in the fourth grade.

I'm homeschooled.

My parents had it planned for me to become homeschooled starting my freshman year. I talked them into letting me keep going to school though.

I made it three weeks into my freshman year, and called my mom from class to come get me. And I never went back.

Since it was already planned for me to be homeschooled she already had all of my school stuff ready and everything.

I left my school I went too from pre K - 5th, and came to my last one.. It is the smalled school around here.. about 200 people from 7-12 grade.

7-12 grade are in the same building.. just two hallways. Being in a school THAT small.. you wouldn't think the drama would be so horrible. But small towns are filled with drama..

I tried to just ignore it and concentrate on my school work, but it didn't work out that way.

I realized that I couldn't get the schooling I needed at that school, due to the people around me & the school districts curriculum.

I'm in my junior year now as a home-schooler and I love it.

I am homeschooled and have been all my life.
My parents decided they could give me a better and more thorough education than a public school could.

Honestly I love it and have never wanted to go to public school.

I was homeschooled in 7th & 8th grade. I hated it more than anyone can imagine.
I now go to a public high school. I love it.
We're going to leave it at that. . . .:upsidedow

I'm taking online school.
I love it so much more then public high school.
I chose to do this because at the time my dad had died and there was a bunch of drama going on and I was extremely stressed out.
I've wanted to be homeschooled since the 6th grade and my mom finally let me so I went with it!
I'm loving it, :)

alot of ppl at this theater place i do plays at,
are homeschooled, but they also have this thing
they go to called co-op(anyone heard of it?), where
they go to have lessons with other kids a few times a week

I'm homeschooled.

I do online school.

I don't remember the exact reason why my parents chose to homeschool me but I love it. I love the flexibility and I love that fact that I got to spend so much time with my sister who died when I was 9.

I've been homeschooled since 1st grade, so I can't really compare it to public school. I don't know the exact reason my mom chose for me to do Homeschool. This is the first year i'm doing Online school and I love it.

Exactly! The flexibility is wonderful. My parents can pick when I got off for breaks which if way more convenient.

Most people I know who are home schooled go to co-op's and love them... From what I've heard they get a much better education in a quicker amount of time than most do in a public school. Personally I've asked my
parents to switch to the co-op and do only 2 classes at home but my parents have said no sadly :(.. Which my 2 closest friends go to the co-op so it's a bummer... Also there's alot more class selection and you can get credits faster than if you were not home schooled... Which means you can graduate faster...

Homeschooling for me wasn't really an option, both of my parents were working with a total commute of 120 miles (60 miles there and back) and my sister and I had to have a babysitter/nanny for most of my childhood. My other cousins (the ones that are not going on the trip to Florida with us) are homeschooled though. They really want to go to public school and play sports, but they can not go to public school for various reasons.

do u guys get winter vacation off and other vacations off
like kids in public schools?

I get all the same breaks as public kids get.

They could play sports.
I do and I'm homeschooled.

I do online school. Plato Web Learning/Direct Link. I love it because I hate being around people. My last day at a school was a Thursday (I think that was April 26th? 2008...) I got my online classes a few days later on like Monday or Tuesday...

My school and mother thought I should do online school...I was put into online school because in 8th grade I missed over 60 days of school and was usually hours late every day and I was falling behind. I'd get sick a lot/stay sick for awhile...and maybe because of how I acted too (I wouldn't talk to anyone or try to make up work and I started doing nothing in class because I stopped caring)

My mother and I had to do a meeting at my school with the online school people...and I guess they did a meeting with my psychologist too because to get into online school during middle school I had to have a doctors note...

I'm homeschooled because when my parents were in school, they got teased and such, and they thought it would be best to keep us away from that. And she doesnt think people should have to learn something they really have no interest in. I go to a co-op twice a week (we get assignments, but they're really dumb and babyfied.), but in 11th I'm doing online school/college classes.

i asked my mom about home schooling/ online school because i am really stressed out right now and want to try online school but she won't let me. :/

i started homeschool in 6th grade because of the bad middle school selection and now in 9th grade i am still homeschooled because we moved into the middle of no where and the schools here have been known that the kids go to college unprepared so I am homeschooled and will be until i graduate or parents send me to private school

I think attending a public school broadens a student's perspective as compared to the student who is homeschooled.
