*** Homeschool List ***

Where can you get dd besides WDW? The disney store? We don't have one around here~ can you order them online somewhere??? Thanks, that sounds like a great idea and fun too. I think it would work better than regular dollars:laughing:

I'm honestly not sure if you can get them any place other than the Disney Store and at WDW.

PM me if you don't have any luck finding them online. I'm going to the Disney Store tomorrow afternoon and would be happy to purchase some for you and mail them to you if you're comfortable with that.

I found this info on All Ears today:
"I was told that I could order via fax. I faxed in my order first thing Monday morning, and what do you know? The very next morning, there was the Fed Ex guy with my Disney Dollars! The best part was that the shipping was free! You can fax your order complete with the denominations ($1's, $5's, or $10's), name, address, and credit card information, to 1-407-566-5645."

Then, if you can't fax, there's this info (also found on All Ears in the tips section)
"You can order Mickey Dollars (Disney Dollars) through the mail, too. We always do it this way. Just send them the amount you want plus shipping and they will get them right out to you. It's easy and they are a very reliable way of getting Disney Dollars if you don't have a store near you. Here's the address:
Disney Ticketing Services
P.O. Box 17140
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
Phone: 407-827-4050

We mailed ours and got our Dollars in a little over a week when we used Fed Ex. The Disney Dollars come in their own little wallet and include extra wallets, too, if you need to pass themout to kids or other people."

Thanks guys. I will order through the mail. That's great to know:)

Ah, Sha_lyn, maybe our dd's are twins separated at birth! My dd9 was arguing that the calculator was wrong today. There is no way that HER answer could possibly be incorrect! ;)

I have to admit that I haven't given a single grade in our 2 1/2 years of homeschooling. If dd9 gets something wrong, I just have her correct it. I guess we'll have to do testing and grading at some time before college, but I'm in no rush. My dd is the type that will cry because she gets one wrong, she was like that in public school as well. :confused3 Today she was rushing through her math and messed herself up with multiplication with carrying (2 digits X 2 digits) and just couldn't stop berating herself. "I'm so stupid, I can't do anything" etc. It is frustrating for me to have her do that, but I know for a fact that I was the same way at her age.

My dh occasionally pushes for testing, but I've just never gotten around to it. We have had her tested the last two years using the Woodcock-Johnson III, but that isn't like a "real" test. She gets freaked out just hearing the "T" word. I guess we'll have to work on that....

Onto another topic: has anyone used Kumon workbooks? I've looked at them several times at Barnes & Nobles and I think my little guy (3 1/2) would like them. I may get him a few for Christmas. :santa:

Well we sat down and went over the lesson together. I think what was happening was that she "sort" of understood it, but didn't really get the entire concept.

I tested DD in the past with the CAT5 and we both hated it.
We used the PASS this yr and it was so much easier on both of us.

Thanks everyone for the hugs and support. Usually for her the grade is enough of a reward. I used to not even worry about grades, but she wanted them.

Oh We just joined at Carol Marsh Mysteries book club. DD loves reading the books and actually read 6 chapters today. I never thought I would see the day she had rather read than do math. LOL

I don't do grades for everything else except math and spelling -previously graded history but didn't see the point. Everything else is just learning and talking about what we read or do. LA is just rough to grade!

Lori

When I teach in ps, I always tell the kids what I am looking for. So, if I am concerned about punctuation, I will not grade (for example) the writing quality or content quality. I will only grade the punctuation.

Likewise, when I am focusing on sentence structure, I am not as concerned about punctuation.

Thank you! That is good and doesn't stress them out over every little thing- just one thing at a time!!

Well, yesterday was my birthday and it was so great!!! I am now 33:goodvibes boy it goes by quickly doesn't it???

We got our Disney World tickets today!!!
They came Fed-Ex overnight. They knocked and left them on the door step! $800.00 on the door step:eek: I was standing in the kitchen when they knocked so I saw her knock and leave instantly! We live in a townhouse so we have a lot more traffic than a house on a quiet street, so I just hate to think about them sitting out there all day if no one was home:scared:

We ordered them on Oct. 31st and got them today, it's so exciting! In case anyone else gets theirs and wonders, ours all say 5 day, 1 park per day - youth. I called to make sure the "youth" didn't stand for child tix and it doesn't, it stands for the youth group dept. at Disney:)

34 days left...we're so excited! 5 weeks from tonight and we'll be on our way:yay:

earthfairies--don't your tickets have some specific date on them that they are good for? That seems like it should be there. Otherwise, what other than honesty is to keep someone from buying the tickets for this event but just going at another time? Do they have an expiration date on them?

What a great thread! We're in our first year of HS'ing. My son is in K. We're really enjoying it! We're using Abeka, and like it so far.

Glad I found this thread! :thumbsup2

I have used them when my youngest was about that age. He LOVED the cutting one and the mazes ones. In fact for my middle guy that was the way I started getting him to cut and not hate it. I credit that cutting book completely for him being able to cut at all by now!

I guess anyone could use them. They don't have our names on them, but do have a good through date. They say valid 1/7/08-1/28/07.

I'm sorry, I must have missed this discussion as I was trying to wade through the 146 pages. Are these discounted tickets? We are going during that time frame and would love to get a good discount on tickets.

Oh my goodness!

I just ordered our homeschool tickets! I ordered 5 day hoppers with 4 additional passes to the waterpark (Typhoon Lagoon is open) and DisneyQuest.

The kids have always wanted to try the water parks and DisneyQuest and this is their chance to do it for a good price.

I called reservations and asked some specific questions:

RE: The DQ and Waterparks, you bascially get 4 vouchers to use at either the waterpark or DisneyQuest, SO, each time you go to one, you use a voucher.

This works for us because we will not be there 9 total days, so one day we can do the waterparks in the day and DQ in the evening if we want.

Also, I asked about them being non-changeable and non-refundable. He said that Disney is very understanding about things like deaths in the family, etc...and would probably at least offer to let you use the tickets at another date, but would probably not fully refund them.

Just thought some of you might like to know!
