That's what one of our headlines read in the St. Petersburg Times (FL) today. It seems that New York City is reviewing the possibility of using old cruise ships in the Bahamas to house the homeless in New York City. The existing shelters are full to capacity. They are checking out the safety factors of this proposal and who knows -- maybe some day in the distant future, some poor soul will be calling our Magic and/or Wonder -- HOME.

Nice thing if they can do it. We'll have to wait and see...:D

I heard about that yesterday and I'm still forming an opinion. Are they going to be stuck on board for ever never getting off or what? Or a rotation kind of thing like only in the winter. Instead of freezing on the streets of NYC, it's better to be on a ship, but as long as it's safe. I guess they won't be getting off at any ports. If they like to go and it's safe, it doesn't sound so bad instead of freezing on the streets. Definitely, it will be a change of scenery and environment. An exciting adventure.

I don't think they plan to sail these ships anywhere...just dock them someplace and let the homeless live on them.

It's definitely a unique idea.

You are correct, Michelemouse -- I guess I should have made that point clear. These are old cruise ships that would be docked at NYC -- not sailing anywhere.

ROFL! I thought maybe New York was going to load up all the homeless that they could and give them a free "One Way" cruise down through the Panama Canal to California. :)

My husband told me that they did that in his college town. He went to Ft. Lewis College in Durango, CO, and he said that a long time ago they rounded up the few homeless folks that they had in the town and gave them all one way tickets to Albuquerque with a little spending money.

Actually not to long ago they cleaned out Penn Station in NY of the homeless and a lot of them ended up on the train and once they hit the last stop they made them get off...the last stop is MY town!!!!
