I will post pics later today...dd is hoarding the memory card right now :)

DD bought a dress in Florida when she was visiting her aunt and uncle. $20. Bought it in June, on clearance.

DD bought her jewelry for about $16 or 17. Her jewelry cost about as much as her dress!:rotfl:

Her date was shorter than her, so she just wore black flats, that she already owns. She bought a black purse before homecoming last year, and used that again.

The group of 11 of them had dinner at one of the houses. The guys purchased all the dance tickets. The girls took care of dinner, each girl pitched in for the subs, and brought an assigned item, i.e. soda, chips/dip, and dessert. All leftover items where moved to the house where they got together after the dance.

I am proud of this group to not have to spend a fortune on a homecoming event!

Our homecoming dance was last night too. DD had a bunch of friends over for dinner, DS14 went to a friend's house to do the same but got sick and had to come home. DS17 doesn't believe in dances :lmao:.

It is refreshing to hear about kids that value the time together rather than the money they spent.

Oh she looks beautiful! My ds is supposed to be going next weekend but he is not feeling well today and I fear the flu. If it is he won't be able to go to the dance. Fingers crossed that it's just a virus.

And since he was sick we didn't get to go suit shopping so pants and a shirt and tie are going to have to be good enough.

I'm Canadian and we don't have homecoming. Please enlighten me.

The group looks terrific and your daughter is lovely. And, she knows a bargain, too.

At my DD's high school, most of the guys wear a shirt and tie. Unless your ds NEEDS a suit for something, I would just skip the expense.
I sure hope he is feeling better - homecoming events are a big deal around our school, I would hate for people to be out sick.

Homecoming is an event at most US high schools and colleges. It usually is a week of various school-spirit days, powder puff football games, class floats, a big football game, and usually ends with a semi-formal dance.

whats powder puff football? I grew up in a small town (and never went to homecomming, though I went to prom...twice).

We have homecoming in our area too but we don't have a semi-formal dance, that comes in the spring (Prom).

Looking at the pictures on the kids' facebook site would say that the majority of the kids in our area stayed at someone's house for dinner before the dance. I think kids save the big going out thing for Prom (which DD14 has planned out so she can go all 4 years-she is having her brother who is a senior take her this year-you have to go with a junior or senior or be a junior or senior to go--next year she will have a junior ask her and then she will be old enough to go the next two years :lmao::lmao::lmao:).

A powder puff football game is a mini tournament of girls football games. In our school - there are a total of 3 games, seniors vs. sohpmores and juniors vs freshman. The winners of those two games play for the championship.

Let's face it, at DD's high school...seniors usually win. Not that the refs are blind or biased or anything. ;)

The admission fees charged at this function go to some senior class expenses, and the majority (80%) go to a pre-determined charity.

At DD's school, this comes with each class designing a "class powder-puff" t-shirt...

I don't know what goes on at other schools, but this is what happens at DD's HS.

Hi, Nice sharing friends. I too excited to have my first homecoming party as we all friends (girls) had planned to have our dresses from one online shop Nexteve.com so that we all look same in our group, and had also decided how to have dinner there and all things are just planned only waiting for the day..

What a gorgeous young lady you have there! And the dress is perfect; I would never have guessed she got such a bargain! Pleasepleaseplease send your DD up here in a couple of years when I have to find a dress for my DD!! She needs someone to tone down her expensive tastes!!

:thumbsup2
