Do most members usually stay at your home property or do you try to stay at different ones? If you stay at different places how hard is it to get your request at the 11 month window (during off peak times)? Thanks

Welcome to the Dis!

If you stay at a resort other than your home property, you can only book at 7 months out (the 11 month is for your priority at your home resort)

I think you will find a mixed bag - some always stay at home resort, some mix it up.....

We (for example) are mixing it up - we will be staying at OKW in Nov, BWV and BCV in Jan and VWL in Feb - BCV is our home but we had no problem booking within 7 month windows for the other resorts.

We did prefer BWV as our first choice for Nov but with Food and Wine Festival, there were no 2BR there so we picked OKW which is a fabulous alternative

One thing that comes out is that if you want a GV you can only stay at BWV or OKW so that is factor behind some always staying at their home resorts

Thanks

thanks jaysue
I meant to say at the 7 month window. BWV is my home resort and we are planning on going next Nov. I will be travelling with 3 2 1/2 year olds so I need a 2 bedroom. I was debating going to VWL due to its location to the MK, but was afraid I would not be able to get a 2 bd unit. Thabks again

Unless you're going to VWL after Thanksgiving, you probably won't have any problem with the 2BR at the 7 month window.

But be careful!! We own at VWL and ventured to BWV for a visit. Next thing you know, we were the proud owners of a BWV resale contract!!! :)

Make BWV for the dates and unit type you want at the 11 month window then change over at the 7 month window if available. It will very likely be available but you'll be set either way.

Thanks Dean
Thats a great idea. I know staying at either resort will be wonderful. I had planned on staying at BWV until I read how difficult the transportation could be to MK. I was concerned because it is 2 adults with 3 2 year olds on a bus for along time. I I thought I knew alot about Disney, but I have already learned so much from the boards.

From your signature and post, it appears that you have triplets. All I can say, is God bless you! :)

You'll have a great time watching them grow up at WDW year after year!

YES we have triplets. We went to disney last Oct but we had alot of people with us. Next year will be our first trip alone. Iam trying to make it as easy as possible. Also by planning (obssessing) ahead I'm trying to console myself that we decided to skip our trip this year. I'm sure my kids will love Disney as much as we do (Do they really have a choice?) . I was thrilled with my DVC membership before but now Im am so glad we did it, beacause now it really helps to make it a more affordable vacation.

Ganny. Same thing happened to us, only in reverse...er...visa versa.

huey duey & luey...Wow. triples at WDW. Good luck!

Regarding booking outside of your home resort, I just looked at our vacation pattern over the last 5 years. It seems we've only stayed at our home resort 50% of the time. We've been too busy trying out all of the resorts to settle into our home. Booking at the 7month window has not been a problem for us. I do recall making a booking only 3 months in advance for a summer trip. (I don't know what I was thinking  ). We got into a OKW 1BR no problem.

We own at OKW but stay at other resorts as well. We have tried OKW 2nd week of February, 3rd week of March the last week of May and the first week of June. Vero Beach the 2nd week of June and the 3rd week of Oct. and Hilton Head the 3rd week of May. We have never had a problem booking yet and I think only one reservation was made just at the 11 month window. So far so good for us

I have owned at VWL since 02/2001 and have made several trips and have yet to stay at the Villa's. Have always stayed at OKW. I like parking right in front and the rooms are huge. Although, this Mardi Gras I plan on trying The Boardwalk. I love ESPN Club.

I agree with Dean, book your trip at your home resort then try to change at 7 month window.

Have a great Disney Day.

:p

OKW is our home resort and we really love it. However, we've stayed at the BCV on three occasions as well and hope to be staying at HH in December.

Due to airline restrictions regarding Saturday night stays, we tend to book a studio for our first night at WDW (which is almost always a Saturday) if we can, to save on points. We see that as a good opportunity to book the other resorts to "check them out". We are planning to book Saratoga Springs for just that reason. We will get around to BWV and the WLV eventually and Vero Beach as well. But OKW is my heart resort......:p

If it's not available, wait list for the entire days requested. That way you'll only change if the entire thing comes through off the wait list. If you have preferred, the points will also be exactly the same, if not a few more so plan accordingly.
