Home Resort Trading Power - Does this ever happen?

I have been thinking about the importance of home resort, and am wondering if you get any "trading power" with your home resort. I hope this scenario is not taboo, but I'm just wondering if it happens - commonly? occassionally? - and I've just never run across it.

Let's say I have a home resort of BCV - a hot resort - but really want to stay in a AKL GV this year - also a hard location to get. Do people ever find someone with the home resort of AKL to book the GV for them at 11 months in exchange for booking a BCV at a peak time? Of course, you'd have to even things up by exchanging equal point ressies or cash, but I'm thinking this would give you the flexibility to stay at more places where/when you want.

I'm only thinking about this because I REALLY want the BLT location, but have been reading the threads on here with pics of the AKL GV and think that might be a really neat splurge someday, too. Or who knows where else!

So, what do you think? Have you ever done this? Or heard of anyone doing it? Or have any insight on it?

I was thinking about this the other night as well and am very interested in what folks have to say about it. It seems as though there are so many people with points available to transfer/rent. I was wondering if it would just be easier to post your wants and see if someone else is in a similar situation. For example I own AKV with an April UY say I really want to stay at BWV and someone who owns at BWV really wants to stay at AKV. Could we just make the ressie for each other at our respective home resorts using the 11 month window? Or would this be the same as transferring? I'm not sure but if someone transfers points to you doesn't their home resort/UY transfer as well for the transferred points?

I recall seeing another post about this within the past few weeks...apparently it is possible but just like renting it requires a lot of trust and coordination with the other DVC member. You also have the issue of different point usage, value of the points for different resorts, etc., but there is no reason why it cannot work...even though I have never tried it.

What you suggest is certainly possible, if your reach an agreement with another member. Just be aware that, even though you are a member, you'd have no control over your reservation, just like any other renter.
