Home Resort Regrets?

We own at BCV and BWV. We bought last April when the BW points became available for members. I was afraid that the BW points would not last so we bought our main contract at BCV and were able to buy BWV right then too.

I am very happy with our purchase. We have stayed at BWV twice and BCV once and have been very happy with both. I love having points at BWV for the standard and boardwalk views. And I love having points at BCV because it is a small resort and might get harder to get into.

Absolutely no regrets :wave2:

Before we purchased DVC, the wise people of this board drilled into us to "buy where you want to stay the most".

So we bought VWL.

Regrets?

Uh......no. :)

We own at VB+OKW (shouldn't be a surprise :p) and really like having the 11 month window for on-site WDW(OKW) and ocean front (VB).

To get a GV or Beach Cottage it is almost a must to own there especially during peak times. We bought at OKW back in 99 and added 300 pts at VB two years ago. It turned out to be a good move with the VB add-on because my sister's family just moved from Pittsburgh to West Palm Beach 2 weeks ago(job move).

So since VB is only 1 hour from WPB we have the option to fly into WPB airport(or MCO) and always visit family while we are at VB. We can also stay longer and avoid weekend pts by visiting my sister.::yes::

No regrets at all.

We bought at OKW in 1998. Then added on at HH and OKW. We have grown kids and seven grandkids and thought they would like HH due to the beach and golfing opportunities. We were wrong. One of our 2 DD's (the golfer) has never shown any interest in going. We would prefer all our points at OKW but have never had any trouble using them at the 7 month window at OKW, BCV or BW.

We originally bought 300 OKW points via resale in 1997, and then added 100 BWV points from Disney a year or two later. We now regret the BWV purchase somewhat, and wish we added bought 100 HHI points instead.

Our reasoning is that once we bought our OKW points, we will always have a place to stay at WDW. At the 7 month mark we can, if we want, try to stay at a different onsite resort. If we're unsuccessful, it's not a biggie, we'll just stay at OKW. But the times we've tried we have always been successful.

HHI is a different animal, because it's all or nothing. And HHI also has a relatively short season, so booking at 7 months is no sure thing, and will probably get harder. Now we're kicking ourselves for not having points at that resort, because we could really use them.

How long have you owned at BCV?

Hi,

Since July 2003!!!

Bought BWV and have enjoyed every minute. We've stayed at VWL and BCV, and liked them just fine, too. We like the atmosphere at Wilderness Lodge (our favorite pre-DVC resort), but the location of BWV (and BCV) suits our needs better. If we were to add points, we'd probably try VWL, but mostly for split vacations (couple of days there, the rest at BWV).:cool1:

We own our points at BWV, which we bought sight unseen. We love the easy Epcot MGM access and have few regrets and are happy owning there...I'm perfectly content to stay there every time we go to Disney.

But, if I chose my home rather than it choosing me, we like the decor of VWL and its proximity to the MK.

(If we owned VWL, I think I'd have the same feeling that it would sure be nice to have our points at an Epcot resort).

We own at VWL & BWV. We first bought at BWV simply because it was the only resort available (from DVC). However, it's a great resort, and we've had so much fun with our point I can't say I have any regrets there.

For our add-on we bought into VWL, because WL has always been my favorite resort of all, so no regrets there either!

If I had to do over, I'd probably do it the same... BWV 11month booking gives us access to cheaper STD view rooms, and VWL gives us a greater place to stay on our annual thanksgiving trips!

We regret buying at VB. We already had an OKW contract which we were and are thrilled with. We wanted a location off property and thought VB made more sense. It is easier and cheaper for us to get to compared to HH. Nothing against VB. It was clean, beautiful, great CM, etc. However, it just wasn't for us. We felt like there wasn't much to do outside of the resort and we didn't feel like there was a whole lot to do at the resort. While we will visit VB, it won't end up being for a week like we originally intended. We ended up trying HH and loved it so much. We can easily spend a week there. So, while our VB contract isn't a waste, it would have been much smarter for us to buy HH instead. Anyone want to trade?!

Do Hilton Head resales or even points through Disney come up often? I'd LOVE some... Once I win that lottery...

I don't really regret buying the BCV over the BWV when I had the choice but I wish we had picked the BWV for small reasons....

I like the Boardwalk resorts more than the Beach Club area, choice of std view or boardwalk view is a big deal.

the BCV and the VWL should have std view points too !!

plus...I have read a lot of negative stays on this board for BCV...not that is a huge deal but makes you wonder.

Our first DVC stay was the BWV in a Boardwalk view and I really think its going to be hard to beat. ;)

Yeah I bought BWV but would have preferred OKW, but that was sold out and after I saw VWL that would have been next on my list. Oh well, never stayed at BWV.

We actually SOLD our original membership to re-buy and change home resort........ oddly, we broke even doing this, because I get a discount on DVC now (Disneystore CM).

We sold the points for almost exactly what we paid for them, 150 at OKW and 50 at BWV. Those original OKW points had the free passes, too......... (It was only a breakeven because of the 15% discount I got on BCV)

BCV is where the teens want to be, and we get that dedicated 2BR there. As for ME, I love all the locations for DVC at WDW. And now we have June use year, which is nice as the big family trip is in the summer.

Very happy with OKW :earsgirl: , but would love to add-on some points at VWL one of these days ::yes::

We were so happy with our 230 OKW points in early 1997, that we added on another 150 points at OKW the next year! We like having all our points at one place, and we really don't care for the layout of the rooms and the hotel feel of the other resorts, so it is a good fit for us.

We have points at VWL and VB. If we had to do it all over again, we would do it the EXACT same way.
Edited to add: My wife and I are afraid to stay at HH, as we may regret not having points there. ;)

Yes, I did. When we bought into DVC we were staying with friends on their points at BWV. While sitting at Luna Park one day DH & I decided we wanted to buy in.

After taking the tour we found out that the only thing availible was VWL. Talk about bummed out (Because of the location issue). But we took it anyway counting on staying elsewhere.

But after doing a small add on @ BCV the location issue was solved. Personally I'd trade BCV for BWV because I don't see what everyone finds so appealing about that pool & I know DH would trade VWL for OKW anyday!

I regret that I didn't buy into OKW in 1992 when we originally took the tour!:earsgirl: So we again toured--at BWV--in 1997, and bought 170 pts. Then we added another contract of 175 pts, and a 3rd contract of 250 pts. When BCV opened we bought 105 pts, but I just am unhappy that I didn't buy OKW when I had the chance, SO...I am selling the BCV, and buying OKW! I want to be able to book that darned GV, so I can sleep in a different bed every night:teeth: I will just feel better about owning at OKW after all these years, ya know?::yes::

We bought 150 points at SSR and then add ons at BCV
and a resale (in progress) at VWL having read these boards. We are restricted to school holidays and wanted flexibility to book where we want at the 11 month window and use other points for stays when it is just the two of us.
