I see that many owners own multiple resorts. I have a question about that and I haven't found the answer anywhere.

If say, I own 200 points at AKV and 200 points at OKW. If I wanted to reserve something at 11 months out in AKV, could I use all 400 points in the 11 month window, since AKV is a home resort and I would have that many total points. Or, could I only use my 200 AKV points in the 11 month window.

On a similar note, If I buy transfer points, could I use any points in conjunction with my home resort to reserve in the 11 month window or would they have to also be home resort points?

My guess is all the points have to be home resort points to use at 11 months but I wanted to confirm that.

Thanks for taking my question. We rented points to stay at DVC later this year and my wife and I are seriously thinking about buying next year.

Each resort uses ONLY the points from that resort at 11 months. In your example, you could use 200 AKV points at AKV and 200 OKW Points at OKW at 11 months. Points you have transferred in retain their home resort and use year...so if someone transfers in 200 BCV points, they could use them at BCV at 11 months and all other resorts at 7 months.

Thank you, that is what I suspected, but wanted to be sure, because that answer will affect my planning. Thanks again!

Although it bears adding that if you own 200 points at two resorts, you CAN book 400 point reservations at each resort eleven months out.

You do this by alternating your stays at the resorts every other year, using banking and borrowing such that you combine two years' points at each resort.

Chuck is spot-on about the way it works if you want to use the points at each home resort every year. My only goal is to hopefully shed some light to the OP, on why some members choose to own smaller contracts in multiple resorts.

just to be clear, banking and borrowing do not change the home resort status of the pts. you would be using each contract independently of the other, so you'd need enough pts in each contract for each resort.

(it sounds obvious, but some people do get confused when people start talking about banking and borrowing.)

I understand the banking/borrowing rules. what we were thinking about was using DVC for two kinds of uses: yearly/EOY for us, and a big family invite every 3-4 yrs.

My concern is that I'd like to try a resort like AKV as a home resort for yearly and use OKW or SSR for years when we want to rent a 3BR and go big and family (fewer points to reserve at those locations mean we can bank, use and borrow to make this happen while still owning about 200 total points and using yearly/EOY judiciously). If we could split resorts and pull points, that would work great. I didn't think that would work, but wanted to ask

Since we can't, I'm thinking we need home resort to be OKW so that we can reserve 3BR at 11 mos. out and depend upon being diligent about 7mos booking to get a regular suite elsewhere in other years (and possibly adding separate points later).

As I understand it,3BRs are hard to come by at the 7mos. window. That's why I was asking.

Thank you for your help.

If you are not interested in the AKV Grand Villas (I know they are quite a bit more expensive than OKW), IMO, you've made a good decision. Except for the value and concierge villas, you should be able to get AKV at 7 months almost all of the time. Not so for the OKW Grand Villas - those are a very good bargain and go quickly.
