Home Resort Question

We are considering our options.

If I add on (buy) 100 Points at OKW and have 200 Points at VWL(Home Resort) (banking and/or borrowing) could I book a Grand Villa at OKW at the 11 month mark?

Or how many points at OKW would I need to buy to book there, at the 11 month mark?

Or do I need to change my home resort (sell off VWL or buy more than 200 pts at OKW to make that my home resort)?

I'm confused. Any help in understanding this would be appreciated!

I haven't looked at the charts (point requirements for a GV) but the simple answer to your question is a very simple answer, you can only book at 11 months with points directly assigned to your home resort. In your case, that would be 100. Remember that you can bank and/or borrow to make these points up to 200-300 in any given year.

You figure out how many points you will need for your GV stay, and use the every third year bank/borrow scenario to achieve that number.

So if I found a resale for approx 125 points and was able to make it thru ROFR and closed this year (assuming the seller had 125 points available this year-2009) I could bank this year, go in 2010 (using 2010's 125 points) + borrow up against 2011.

Right now it is 356 points for a GV in September.

And book it 11 months in advance.

Even though my Home Resort is VWL (200 points)

And DVC would allow me to book it because I would then have enough of points bought at that resort to cover that stay...

Do I have this right?

Yes, you have it right. If your resale has all its 2009 points, you would be using 125 ('09), 125 ('10), and 106 ('11) points to make up your 356. Just make sure your trip is after the date you receive your 2010 points to enable you to borrow from your 2011 use year.

You may have multiple home resorts, but the home resort 11 month booking window is only good to the extent of the number of points you own there. As pointed out above, banking and borrowing will help you if you want to buy a smaller contract. At the 7 month window you may combine points from all resorts for a reservation.

If you added on at OKW and kept VWL, you would have 2 home resorts.

Your OKW points would allow you to book OKW 11 months out. Your VWL points would allow you to book VWL 11 months out. You cannot combine different home resorts' points to book at the 11 month window.

You could bank and borrow your 100 OKW points to have, potentially, 300 points for a vacation every 3 years. This would allow you to stay 6 nights in an OKW GV during the Adventure or Choice Seasons (one weekend night) (with a few points left over).

Thanks for all the help with the clarification. Now all I need to do is to find the right resale adn I'll be all set!

:woohoo: More points!!! Gotta love add-ons, except when MF bills come around! ;)

I'm sure you saw it, but as a PP said, pay attention to your UY, or you may not have access to those 2011 points you need. I didn't even think about that! Gotta LOVE these boards!

Not that this will be a big deal, but you may end up with a different UY from your VWL contract. We have two different UYs, and it's not a problem. I did it on purpose, because Dec is a better UY for us. However, IF you have the option, and it will work with what you're trying to do, I would choose a contract with the same UY as your VWL points. Just makes it much easier to combine the points at the 7 month window if you need to combine for a reservation.

Also, when calculating the points you may need for a particular resort and villa category, keep in mind the number of points required for that booking are subject to change. You may want to add in some extra points as a cushion.
