Home resort - have I got this right?

Hi,
Can I just check my logic on home resort choice? If I mainly want to stay in a particular favorite resort, then I should buy at that resort.

If, however, I want to take advantage of the DVC flexibility and stay at lots of different resorts then home resort is not important, and therefore I buy at the cheapest one (resale) i.e. SSR, even though I may have little interest in ever staying there.

Does this sound right?

Thanks,
Matthew :)

Kind of - - but if you want to stay mostly onsite at WDW then buy

points at onsite WDW DVC resort; do not buy at HHI or VB (or VGC) counting on

booking at a WDW DVC resort at 7 months or less unless you absolutely

and positively would not have a problem having to stay with

that reservation you made at HHI or VB during your

Home Resort priority booking window

which is months 11 through 7 months+1day before check-in.

If it doesn't matter at all which onsite WDW DVC resort you will stay at

then buy at onsite DVC where your $ gets you most points.

Just keep in mind that only your Home Resort is available to you to book during your

owner's priority booking window so if you want to use your SSR points at

BLT, AKV etc. you have to wait until 7 months or less before check-in date

you'd want in order to use SSR points to book at other resorts.

:goodvibes

All DVC owners can book any resort starting 7 months prior to check in. If you have no real strong preference as to which resort you stay, then yes, buying something via resale that gives you a lot of points for the least cost (consider MF's as well) is a good idea.

As long as you are okay with staying at SSR (you mention this one), for some or all of your stay, if you can't get what you want at the other resorts, than this plan will work for you.

While most members have no problem finding things 7 months out, there is always the chance that nothing of interest to you will be available. Depending on when you go and want to visit plays a role in what you can get. For example, getting VWL in December, if you are not an owner, will be difficult.

As long as you are happy staying at your home resort, then I say pick the best deal. We bought BLT because we would not be happy elsewhere. While we do envision trying out BCV or BWV in a split stay situation, the majority of our nights each year will be at BLT.

Good luck!!!

If you are a not a huge plan ahead planner and won't take advantage of the 11 month wondow then buy where it's cheapest. :thumbsup2 If you plan on renting your points out often then buy at one of the smaller (WLV) resorts.
