I am a new DVC owner with a question that I know is probably simple to most. We are eagerly anticipating our first stay at SSR in October. However, for future reference, how do I book my home resort and then switch at 7 months if something else at another resort is available. The reason I ask is that we have enough points for the one week stay at our home resort. I know some resorts fill up fast at the 7 month window. Do I have to cancel my initial reservation at home resort and then book the new resort at the 7 month mark? Or once I book the new reservation at the 7 month mark will it give me the opportunity to cancel the initial reservation later in the online booking process? I hope this makes sense! Basically, I don't want to cancel my initial reservation before having another confirmed. Just not sure how to do this if I don't have enough points to cover both.

If you don't have enough pts, you have to cancel first.

There is a bit of risk.

If there is availability and you call to book, the rep can hold the new reservation you want for you, cancel your old reservation, and then proceed to book the new reservation. So no risk.

But that means you lose that extra 1 hour as members can get online at 8am and book before you can call in at 9am. Most times this won't really matter except for the extremely high busy days.

some reps can hold it, some cannot.

Thanks to you for your replies. It makes a lot more sense what I need to do now! I knew with waitlists you could choose to cancel a reservation if the waitlist came through. Now I feel more comfortable with how to handle the 11 month switch at 7 months.:)
