How do you tell if the home you are renting is in a safe area? Also, what rental company would you recommend?

I would start with www.orlandovillas.com. All the home I have felt safe in. All the homes had alarm systems & safes in the homes. You might like to rent in a gated community. I am sure many members will be checking in to give you advice. GOOD luck!

The communities the rental homes are in are safe as long as you remember to take the same precautions as you would at home-checking windows are shut doors locked that sort of thing .There are 2 ways you can book a rental home with an agency or direct with an owner .Owners can be checked out on the county websites when you find a home you like and they have the advantage of knowing the home inside out and what is has and doesn't have for you -whereas most agencies won't have the same knowledge.They will have a company on the ground who looks after the home and the guests so any problems are dealt with swiftly.

Gated or non gated is a personal thing and there is no evidence to show that one is any safer than the other.

We have stayed both sides of Disney, East and West. We consider both safe although we have always stayed in gated communities, Sunset Lakes and Cumbrian Lakes.

All the houses we have rented have had alarms installed but we have never felt unsafe.

I agree with both jannyans & frothy. I have stayed at two non-gated communities and felt very safe. I do understand your concerns if you are a first time renter

we just stayed at a rented home last week for the first time it was in a ungated community we had a wonderful time and we never felt unsafe the owner personally met upon check in (she did not disclose the excaxt adress of the house till check in for added safety) she gave us a complete tour i would highly reccomend them they were vacationears.com the house was not far from windor hills and they were reasonable good luck enjoy i did
