Home made or cheap way to get rid of ants

Yep. I mix Borax with sugar. Haven't seen an ant since. It's the ONLY thing we could get to work.

never tried borax but boric acid is a powder also maybe concentrated

Terro works really well, and they have formulas that are safe for kids and pets.

Also, if you can see where they're coming in, I've been able to stop them by smearing Vicks Vaporub around the area, since they use smell to communicate.
