I suppose this is not really a budget question, but I was wondering if any of you have a good recipe for home made ice cream. I used to buy "Junkets" as the thickening agent for the ice cream, but I can no longer find them in my area.

My question: Do I need a pudding type base for the ice cream, or how do I make it.

Any recipes would be appreciated.

What kind of freezer do you have? We have a 6 qt electric ice cream freezer and we love to make ice cream. You have LOTS of wiggle room in your recipes. We like to make fruit (strawberry, banana, pineapple)

We use about a quart of sweetened fruit
add one to two cans of sweeten condensed milk
A teaspoon or two of vanilla
And fill with any combination of cream, half and half or whole milk

You can sub a bottle of chocolate syrup for the fruit or up the vanilla and have simple chocolate or vanilla.

It takes a lot of crushed ice and ice cream salt to create the freezing process. The finer the ice, the smoother the ice cream will be.

We have a 4-quart electric ice cream maker.

Your recipe sounds good. Will have to try it.

This is my go to vanilla ice cream recipe!

2 Quarts half and half
1/2 pint of heavy cream
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 teaspoons vanilla
1 pinch of salt

You can add fruit, berries, chocolate, nuts, ect to it.
