Hello all,
Just wanted to update those who may be leaving soon. We arrived on Monday July 26th and stayed our one and only night at the Best Western Park Place Inn (BWPPI). We had never stayed there before. Overall, I would not recommend it. It was noisy and uncomfortable and a bit dirty. We had a room with a king bed and sofa bed, and the sofa bed was so uncomfortable for my daughter who can typically sleep anywhere. The rooms have their own airconditioning units (like small window units, not central air) and they are very noisy and don't circulate the air well. The unit was located right next to the sofa bed, and it blew on my daughter all night, making her cold--while the rest of the room was sort of warm and humid. There was a baby crying all night in the room next door, and the people above us took showers at 5:00 am--and you could hear every sound. Some couple who had too much to drink had a very loud argument in the parking lot at about 3:00 am. Finally after 20 minutes or so I opened the door and told them I would call the police if they didn't stop--and they cursed me out so I shut the door quickly. My kids were worried the rest of the night they would come back to our room. It just looks a bit seedy there. We have also stayed at Hojos, and I would recommend that over BWPPI, even with the long walk down Harbor.
I personally really like staying on property, and think the extra cost is worth it. I know not everyone agrees, but for us it is a big part of the vacation experience to stay somewhere a bit nicer. We also like the walk back to the DLH thru downtown disney much better than walking on Harbor. The music, lights in the trees, no cars, entertainment and muscians makes it much nicer. We got a great rate thru expedia--I guess because we didn't book till 3 weeks prior to our trip.
So we were so ready to check into the Disneyland Hotel the next morning--and it made us appreciate it all the more! So there was a silver lining to all of that. We were placed in a remodeled room in the Dreams Tower overlooking the pool, and it was quiet, beautiful and wonderful for the next 3 nights. The beds were so soft and the room was super clean. We had great maid service the whole time we were there, too. I would call each day before we left in the morning and tell them we would be back by 2:00 and to have the room clean by then, and they always did. It felt great to go back to our clean room to rest.
The crowds were huge while we were there! We go to Disneyland at least twice a year, and this was the most crowded we have seen it. It isn't just the waiting for the rides--it is trying to walk and get from point a to point be that makes it difficult. There were many times that the crowds were so great that we had to keep stopping because it is like a traffic jam of people. But even with that aspect, we had an amazing time--probably our best trip yet!
World of Color was amazing, but I still am just a sucker for the fireworks in front of the castle. That is more my thing, I guess. I am glad we saw WOC, though. It is hard to see the projections because they are right at the water line. We did the fast passes with the picnics (I highly recommend this method, as the lines for fast passes are still very long) and saw the first show in the blue section. We started lining up at 6:15 (there was a line, and we were near the front), but when they let us in lots of people rushed forward and started saving the railing spots in front of us. We found a railing spot, but then I was afraid a light would be right in front of us--so we moved. By then a lot of other people had been let in, so we were further back. We could see--but not great. There has to be a better way to make this show easier to see. I hope Disney makes som changes there.
We loved the parade (Peter Pan came off the float and took a picture with my daughter!), Aladdin, eating ice cream while watching fireworks on Mainstreet, and jumping on Pirates over and over while Fantasmic was on and there was no line! The Storybook Boats ride is so much better at night! That was our very last ride on our last night, and it was the perfect end to our stay.
