We got back on Friday from our 4 night stay at the Davy Crockett ranch and 1 night at Donnington Services Travel inn! Travelling with my DD (17), DSis, DBiL, and DN (16). My DBiL drove, which was very kind, from Northumberland. We shared a cabin on the 2 nights fee deal booking for one person (the rest of us got Francillian AP's through the post) and we bought one meal plan, which gave us 4 breakfasts, table service meals and afternoon teas.
The weather was cold (as expected) and mixed, Monday and Thursday were sunny and bright, Tuesday was drizzly in the morning and Wednesday foggy and cloudy. It was crowded, again as expected, I can't quite decide if it was as busy as October half term.

Highs

Davy Crockett Ranch - We got a great cabin near to the village and we were really impressed by the layout, facilities and how warm it was. The pool was lovely and the shop had a really good selection of Disney merchandise and groceries. We took food from home so we could self cater breakfasts and some meals, which helped to keep the cost down.

Chez Remy - We met up with my other DSis and her family and had a table for 9 for a 5.00 booking. The restaurant was brilliantly themed and the food delicious. We had a friendly and attentive waiter who made the experience even more enjoyable. We felt it wouldn't be out of place in WDW and was certainly on a par with the new Be Our Guest Restaurant over there.

Other meals - We had some lovely good quality meals this time. Plaza Gardens lunch buffet, Lucky Nugget Saloon, Cowboy Cookout and Colonal Hathis and we enjoyed coffee and cake in Cable Car bakery.

Ratatouille area -The ride was our favourite of the trip, the whole area is beautifully themed and it was nice to see inside the shop this time.

Character meets - With older girls we don't do so many of these anymore, but we had great interaction with Chip and Dale outside Cowboy Cookout and we made our first visit into Mickey Mouse's theatre which was also good fun.

Disneyland Park - We had brilliant sunshine on Monday and Thursday and it was lovely exploring the park and castle and enjoying the music. We enjoyed the parade and Disney Dreams, although we only saw them each once this trip.

Lows

Building work - On arrival at Davy Crockett there is lots of building work for the new resort, this wasn't very welcoming, but once inside the ranch we were unaware of it. Discovery land was pretty much a building site - I know it's good to see refurbishment happening, but we missed Space Mountain and the view on Orbitron wasn't great!

Studios in the rain - We had cold drizzle on Tuesday morning and lots of rides were down in the Studios. We managed to do Crush at rope drop and my DSis and DBil queued for Ratatouille FP's, but after that most other things were closed. We did the backlot tour which we haven't done for years, Art of Animation, ToT and ratatouille, but it was all a bit miserable in the rain.

We had a lovely relaxing break and lots of fun! Driving, sharing the cost of a cabin and some self catering made it good value for money for a long trip. We don't have any more trips planned, but my AP doesn't expire till September so you never know! :rotfl2:

Great to hear you had a good time pixiedust:

Was going to ask you about the village nature development as they'd started that when we last visited the DCR Christmas 2013. As you say, a bit of a shock at the entrance, but it doesn't impact once you're inside.

Personally, when it rains in the parks, I head for Adventureland as I think it compliments it pirate:

I don't have any more trips planed either :sad2:....don't let that AP go to waste!

Pleased you enjoyed your trip and didn't let the weather spoil it. I have never stayed in the Ranches but the photos on the review thread look great

Glad you had a great time - how long did the drive take? It's a long way! I've always liked the idea of DCR but as we've never had a car over there, it's never been an option for us. One day maybe. I think it would be a great venue in summer!

I agree about the Rata area - it's gorgeous. We were really impressed and loved the ride - so clever. We didn't get to eat in Chez Remy but had a peek in from inside the ride and it looked fab. Would have it on my list if we went again for sure!

Like you we have no DLP planned, WDW and Orlando is eating into our savings way more than we'd accounted for! But, I quite fancy DLP for the next big birthday milestone - is it 2017? You never know, with the new financial situation, there may be some extra things to look forward to by then! :P

Are you not going to WDW this year? I had in my mind you were :rolleyes1.

The drive was great on the way down it took just under 12 hours, we only stopped once in England and then had a break on the euro tunnel. It seemed fairly easy driving to and from the park and it was nice to have the car to take food etc for some self catering. We also went to Val D'Europe and Valee Village which was nice. I agree a Summer trip there would be lovely and definitely worth having the car if you could stay a bit longer.
The journey home took longer, immigration was very slow at the tunnel and we got stuck behing a crash on the M20. We stayed overnight in a Travel inn at Donnington Services which was actually really nice and new, but we didn't arrive till 1 am! We then had a 4 hour journey on Friday morning.
No WDW trip this year :sad2: too expensive! My next "special" birthday is 2018 so maybe then if not before pixiedust:

Gosh - it sounds quite a journey. Both my DDs are travel sick so car journeys are always exciting for us! So, not sure we could ever manage a journey like that! They also can, from time to time, get air sick too (more DD1) - hence we've waited so long to try Orlando - the thought of 9+ hours on a flight with two sick children just didn't appeal, but to be fair, as they are getting older they get over it much quicker and it doesn't happen every journey - tends to be if they are hot/and or tired really. Fingers crossed the Dreamliner lighting and special air circulation will do their stuff and they'll be fine when we fly!

Oh, well, if it's a special birthday it would be rude not to book! That is part of the reason we are going to WDW this year - double whammy, mine and my Mum's special birthdays :bday:. I don't think DH would be going otherwise, he must whinge about the cost every week :scared:.

I'd love to see some photos of DCR and your lodge if you are able to post any please!

I posted some photos on the hotels thread. There didn't seem to be any recent info on there so I thought I'd update it!
You could always hire a car from CDG airport, it probably wouldn't cost much more than transfers to DLP from the airport.
I'm sure your DD's will be fine on the flight. The Dreamliner looks great :thumbsup2

Yes, I hope you are right - my friend is cabin crew on them and said she rarely has anyone take ill on them and if they do, it's something not connected to air sickness.

I do fancy DCR and a car sometime, staying for a longer break and maybe taking in Paris and Versailles etc. My eldest DD loves anything cultural and would love the art galleries and Versailles! One day (but don't tell my DH just yet!)! :rolleyes1

I'm off to see your photos!

Welcome home & thanks for sharing. Sounds like you had a great time. Sorry to hear your Tuesday morning wasn't fantastic. It's so pants when everything decides to malfunction at once. I'm off to look at your DCR pics :thumbsup2

Welcome back and glad you had such a good time. I have very happy memories of our time at the DCR. Rat Ride, area and restaurant sound as if they were amazing highs! :goodvibes

Checked our your photos - it looks homely and rustic. I think the grounds would come into their own in the summer though. Definitely food for thought for us if we ever get there for a longer trip in summer and take in other sights too! Need to work on DH once WDW is out of the way lol!
